Obituary
Angelo J. Bill Segale
Age 83, Born October 8, 1923
On January 1, 2007 at the age of 83 Bill Segale passed away in his home surrounded by his family. In January 2006, he had a ruptured appendix that aggravated his congestive heart failure and his health deteriorated over the past year. He was cared for at home by his family and went to rest peacefully.
He graduated from Highline High School in 1942. In 1945, he married the love of his life, Eldrid, and they enjoyed over 61 loving years together. They owned and operated the Beacon Tavern from 1953 to 1958 then he began helping out at Nick Raffo Garbage Company. That led to a career in the garbage industry. He was a partner in Nick Raffo Garbage Company, expanding to Federal Way Disposal, RST Disposal and Tri-Star Disposal. After retiring from those in 1988, he went on to buy Yakima Waste Systems in 1991.
His passion for horse racing began over 40 years ago. He had several outstanding winners over the years at Longacres and Emerald Downs, and also owned breeding stock. This hobby gave him so much joy and introduced him to many wonderful friends in the racing industry.
Bill was a proud first generation Italian and a member of the Sons of Italy-Renton. In addition he was a member of the Washington Horse Breeders Association, Washington Refuse and Recycling Association, Elks Club, and Teamsters Union.
He treasured his family and his greatest joy was when they were all around. Family gatherings were always lively with lots of joking, teasing, and love. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and his family adored him. He was the ‘head’ of the family. Bill will always be remembered for that mischievous twinkle in his eye, the gracious smile on his face, and the unconditional love for his family and friends. He was kind, always generous and touched many lives. He had an exuberant personality and it showed in every aspect of his life – work, family and friends. His accomplishments in life were admirable and he prided himself that he always dealt with the utmost integrity, honesty, and fairness in his personal life and business.
Survived by his wife, Eldrid Segale, Daughters – Tari Carder, Vicki Staley, Lori Segale, Paula Segale, Daughter-in-law Patricia Segale, and Niece – Honi Condiotty and family, Brother-in-Law Lafy Holm, 4 Grandchildren- Vince, Traci, Derick, and Angela, and 4 Great-Grandchildren. I happened to notice the obituary in the newspaper and remembered this familiar name. Lori & Vicki, I just wanted you to know that I remember you both with fondness and am sorry for your loss. I hope the good memories will sustain you.
I will miss you Bill.
Bill was a special cousin and friend to my mother Lena Segale Robertson who passed away in 2005. I know that their spirts and those of many others who Bill touched will be together. I regret that I only met Bill in person once, but from that single meeting it became clear to me how special he is and how wonderful the love is that he and his family shared.
With sympathy and love to all who new Bill,
