Anita M. Mayor
Anita M. Mayor, age 82 and loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away February 2, 2017 at Wesley Homes, Des Moines, WA after a hard fought battle with a recurrence of cancer. Both a Rosary Vigil at 7:00 PM on Friday, February 17, 2017 and a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 18, 2017 will be at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 30525 – 8th Avenue South, Federal Way. Burial at Gethsemane Cemetery, Federal Way, follows Mass. A reception at Old Country Buffet, 1816 S 320th St, Federal Way, will be hosted after the burial. Funeral arrangements by Bonney-Watson.
Anita was born January 10, 1935 in Bario Tulin, Natividad, Pangasinan, Philippines to Arcadio and Maria Mabanglo, and was the eldest of six siblings. After graduating from Dagupan High School, she attended Philippine Women’s University to study pharmacy. In December 1955, she left her studies to take the opportunity to immigrate to the United States. She settled with her parents and five sisters in Seattle, WA, then completed her college education at the University of Washington. After an internship at Seattle Children’s Hospital, she became a highly respected, American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) board-certified medical technologist in 1958. She worked for Harborview Medical Center, specializing in chemistry, then served as a medical technologist at convent hospitals in Spokane, WA and Conrad, Montana. She married Romeo A. Mayor in 1961 and they raised their son, Andrew, and daughter, Rebecca, in Federal Way, WA. She continued her career at Auburn General Hospital, working in the laboratory for 31 years, and retiring as an emeritus member of ASCP.
An accomplished pianist, she loved classical music, especially Chopin and Tchaikovsky. Her favorite authors were James A. Michener, Pope John Paul II, and scientist Richard Feynman. She and Romeo enjoyed traveling together; they toured the UK, Russia, the Holy Land, Japan, Lourdes, France, and the Caribbean, as well as visited the Philippines often. An ardent Roman Catholic, she served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Vincent de Paul Parish and led the Rosary as a member of the Legion of Mary. She also enjoyed sharing her love of astronomy and often shared her knowledge and telescope with the students at St. Vincent de Paul School. Anita was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed making sure her friends and family were always well-fed and cared for. She is survived by Romeo, children Rebecca and Andrew, son-in-law Kelvin Saxton, and grandchildren Ligaya and Annika.

Anita hosted me and my family for thanksgiving for 30 years. Her smile, warmth, and concern for others was felt by all. Her happiness and care for others will continue to live in all all her friends and family. Thank you auntie Anita
