Obituary

Ann Deng Lum lived nine decades, survived a history-making political revolution and twice built a new life in America. She was the sixth of 11 children in a wealthy Shanghai family. Ann and her husband, Irvin Lum, fled China when the Communists overran the country in 1949. They settled in Hong Kong where Ann gave birth to a son. The family immigrated to America in 1956 and started a new life in San Francisco. Ann, who grew up with servants and had never cooked or worked in her native China, adapted in America. She worked in many jobs, first as a seamstress and later in the US Postal Service where she retired. After Irvin passed away in 1996, Ann adapted again moving to Seattle where her son and his family lived. She passed away peacefully on July 26, 2011 and is survived by her son Jackie, daughter-in-law, Debbie and granddaughter, Beatrice. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 20 at 1 pm at the University House Wallingford where Ann lived for the last 13 years

I am so sorry for your loss. May you find comfort in your loving memories, and in knowing that God is near to those that are broken at heart; and those who are crushed in spirit he saves. Psalm 34:18 My deepest sympathy.
