Obituary
Anne ”Doris” Kilgore
Anne ”Doris” KILGORE Age 82. Doris passed away peacefully on September 28 after nearly three years of complications from several mini strokes and a broken hip. She was born at home in West Seattle on December 16, 1923, to Elling and Ida Johnson Skaret. Doris was the youngest of her siblings, Art, Morey, Viv, Harvey and Al. She attended schools in West Seattle until the eleventh grade when she went to work to supplement the family’s income by working as a waitress. When she worked at Smitty’s on Harbor Island, she met Gerald A. Kilgore, and they married on October 6, 1944. They lived in West Seattle, Walla Walla, West Seattle again, Auburn, Fairbanks, Alaska, and finally settle in Auburn. In 1963, they adopted Marla Anne. Doris and Marla were especially close and spent as much precious time together as possible. Over the years, she was a Camp Fire Girls leader, did Safeway demos, and Doris also worked with Art at Art’s Hiway Supermarket and on their rental properties. She was always an immaculate homemaker and good cook. Doris was preceded in death by her parents and two of her brothers, Harvey and Art. She is survived by her husband, Art, of nearly 62 years, her daughter, Marla Benjamin and husband, Mike, her brother, Morey, her sister, Viv, her brother, Al and wife, Jean, and many cousins, nephews, and nieces on down the line to her great-great-great nephew and niece. Doris also had too many good friends to mention by name, but you all know how much she loved you. Art and Marla wish to especially thank Jean Blakeway and Cheryl Oakley, who were like daughters to her, her niece, Edna Gessel, and caregiver, Joyce Rivera for all of the extra love, care, help, and kindness they gave Doris in her time of need, along with the immense help they provided Art and Marla. Doris was a loyal and devoted wife, mother, and friend. She always put the needs of others before her own. Doris was a strong-willed, soft-hearted, loving, caring, and giving woman who will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her Memorial Service will be held Friday, October 6, at noon, at Bonney-Watson Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 16445 International Blvd., SeaTac. A Reception will follow at her nephew, Norm Fazio’s home in West Seattle. She will be laid to rest at Washington Memorial Park in SeaTac.
