Arnulfo “Arnie” Serna, 61, of Kent passed away April 29, 2014. He was born in Uvalde, Texas, to Arnulfo and Chonita Serna. He met his future wife, Sylvia Ann Gutierrez, in their junior high school at the age of twelve and they married on May 17, 1975. Arnulfo is survived by his wife, Sylvia, and four daughters: Lisa, Ivette, Monique, and Laura; 4 grandchildren: Lucian, Magnus, Titus and Lilia and son-in-laws: Larry and Tom and daughter-in-law, Tracie.
Arnulfo graduated from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas, with a degree in Business Administration. He received his master’s in business administration from City University of Seattle. After serving in the ROTC in high school and college, he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the United States Army in 1976. He served for nine years, including postings in South Korea and Germany, before being honorably discharged with the rank of Captain. Arnie believed in providing new experiences for his family and providing a great education for his daughters. The family has lived in Oklahoma, Texas, California and Alaska.
He will be deeply missed by his mother, Chonita, sisters: Amparo, Linda and Veronica and his brother, Robert and countless members of a loved and loving extended family.
You are an amazing family. I know he was surrounded by a great deal of love by all you. May your spirit find comfort in the thoughts and prayers of those who care about you.
My name is Camille. I work at Wells Fargo in Fairwood. Let me start off by saying my deep condolences to his family. I am deeply sorry and saddened that I didn’t get to say goodbye to Mr. Serna. Mr. Serna is my favorite customer and I was his favorite teller. He would wait for me even if there was a line and I was always so happy to see him. The last time I saw him was about 1 month ago due to my working on Saturdays only. This past Saturday, I heard that he passed away which is the day of his funeral and had I known prior to his funeral I would have called in. Immediately after I heard the news from my fellow coworkers I went into our back office and poured my eyes out. My coworkers had told me that he was put in hospice 1 week before he passed. Mr. Serna taught me a lot about life and for that he is my favorite customer. Mr. Serna and I also shared some common health problems. But I didn’t know the severity and I wish I could’ve helped him since I am going to school in the medical field. I’m so sorry to be pouring my heart out. But, the day I was looking for him, is when I find out he passed just days prior when I just saw him 1 month ago. My deep condolences and please come visit me at Fairwood Wells Fargo on Saturdays.

Slyvia, I remember you speaking about an agreement that you and Arnulfo had that you would never go to bed angry at each other – that sometimes you would go out for hamburgers during the midst of a disagreement to remind yourselves how much you meant to each other. I am so sorry that you and your family need to go through this loss and I hope you feel surrounded by love and support always.
I was deeply saddened when I heard last week that Arnuflo passed away. My heart felt condolences go out to you and your family.

I had no idea that your hubby died! I’m not sure if you remember me or not. I used to work with you at Zurich American Insurance as the mail and records clerk. Veronica and I use to be inseparable friends.
