Arthur Charles McDonell, age 88, died peacefully on Saturday, July 12, 2014 in Seattle. Art was born in New York City on June 4, 1926, to Horace and Anabel McDonell. Arthur’s family moved to Manhasset, NY in the early 1930s and he graduated from Manhasset High School. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Adelphi University, a master’s degree from Hofstra University and taught mathematics at Great Neck North Junior High School for over 30 years. His brother, Horace McDonell, was the chief executive of Perkin Elmer, now retired in Naples, Florida. His daughter, Lillian McDonell, is the managing partner of Watson McDonell, a Seattle CPA firm.
In addition to his brother and daughter, Art is survived by companion, Ursula Rychter; daughter-in-law Carole Blakey, step-daughter, Judy Shahn (Jay Lurie); step-granddaughter, Ella Shahn; niece, Diane Nagot, and former wife, Abigail Walsh. He is preceded in death by his long-time companion, Ruth Goldman. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, July 19 at 12:00 Noon at BONNEY-WATSON Capitol Hill, 1732 Broadway, Seattle, WA with committal to follow at Lake View Cemetery.
