Obituary
Arthur Herbert Ewald was called by his Lord to his eternal reward in heaven on October 16, 2013 at the age of 84 years, passing away peacefully at home in Tacoma, WA.
He was born in Yakima, WA on June 28, 1929 to Herbert and Aurelia Ewald, instilling in him his tremendous and characteristic faith, work ethic and discipline while growing up on the family fruit farm with his two sisters Virginia and Dee. He left in 1950 for the ‘big city’ of Seattle, accepting employment with the Boeing Co. where he met and then married the love of his life, Doris, on September 1, 1951. He was to remain at Boeing working in various capacities including Mechanic, Planner and Inspector until his retirement in 1989. He loved the simple things, having little use for the vain or trivial trappings of daily life, preferring quiet times in the company of family and friends, fishing, camping, watching football and working around home. He was most content when could simply accomplish goals that he set out to do. He served faithfully in many capacities at Holy Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church in Des Moines, WA since its forming in 1964, where he was a founding member and dedicated servant for many years in worship and various administrative activities. He was a loving and fiercely loyal husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, great-grandfather and Christian friend. Yet, for all his qualities, he would want simply to be remembered as a redeemed child of God.
He is survived by his adoring wife of 62 years, Doris; sisters Virginia (Lawrence) Boltz and Dee Ewald; children Laurie (Tim) Barnes, Gregory (Cheryl) Ewald, Monte (Sheila) Ewald and Kerry Ewald; 8 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and four nieces. A memorial service is planned for Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at 11:00 am at Holy Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, 2021 South 260th St., Des Moines, WA 98198. Memorials may be given in lieu of flowers to Holy Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, toward the ministry of the church that he held dear.
“But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (I Cor. 15:57).
