Julie & Kirsten,

I am so sorry that you are going through such a horrible loss. I know what a strong person Aunt Barb was and never complained. What a testament to her life. Strength and class – sums up the type of woman she was. Thank God she is not in pain anymore and you don’t have to watch her hurt. You both did so much to help her and that is more than so many people would have done. She will always be in your heart. Savor all those wonderful memories. She gave you so much love and you gave it back to her in spades. God Bless you all.

I have so many great memories of Barb, who started out as our next door neighbor and then became such an important part of my life and my Dad’s. I remember our many weekend excursions together which Barb and Charlie continued after I left for college, the summer days spent sunbathing, the fun holidays celebrated with the Stedman family, and so much more.

In more recent years, I cherish the fact that Barb came to my wedding in Hawaii in 2003, that we were able to attend a Mariners game together in Seattle in June 2005, and that she made a special effort to visit me during her ‘Stedman Girls Christmas Trip to NYC’ in December 2005.

Barb was such a fun, ‘together’ and motherly person – she was a wonderful presence in my life.

I’m very sad that I was unable to attend Barb’s services yesterday – I’m sure they were beautiful and moving. I’m so glad I was able to see her in June, to give her a big hug, and to tell her I loved her. This last visit was very precious to me, as Barb’s memory will always be.

Dear Kirsten, Scott , Mari and Julie,

My dear friends, thank you for bringing Barbara into our life and for sharing her kind and gentle presence with our family.

Novelle and I have such wonderful and fun memories of Barbara from years of sideline soccer cheerleading to always being by Kirsten’s side volunteering at Browns Point elementary school.

She made both Novelle and I feel very special. This gift from Barbara will stay with us forever.

Thank you.

Much love to her family.

Barb was a totally “together” person. She was always professional in her work, yet ever gracious. She was largely responsible for the AST program always meeting its CDRL deliveries, and she always kept the closed area security paperwork up to date. And she kept the candy jar replenished!

Mrs. Stedman was truly a gift to young people. I had the great opportunity to meet her in 1984 while I was attending high school with her daughter Kirsten.

Mrs. Stedman had a way of understanding what a teenager, such as myself at the time was going through. You never had to say to much, because she was able to hear your heart and offered advice based on that.

She has raised amazing daughters, which I am blessed to have as friends.

Mrs. Stedman, the world was made a better place because you were in it and you shared your love feely. Thank you for making a difference in a young persons life!

My Dear Precious Friend Barb,

In life, I believe, we do not just happen to meet certain people. God places them on our pathway of life. You were my close friend, confidant, support, always a focused listener, non- judgemental, and your beautiful smile lit my world and many others. I watched you struggle with this horrible disease. You kept up the fight like a real trooper never complaining, but just doing what you had to do to keep going. And, when you had a bit of extra energy, still continually tried to do what you could as you so LOVED life. I will miss you terribly my dear friend.

Love and a “bear” hug,

Darleen

We only knew Barb for a few years but loved her anyway. What a gracious and special woman to know. She always had time to talk and make sure we were alright but never complained about her own difficulties. We loved her and her family Kirsten, Scott and Mari. We want to be there for each of you as you have been for us.

We first met Barbara at Hillsdale College. She was beautiful and always had a smile. They were at our wedding and we at their wedding, in Traverse City, Mi.

When Barbara moved to Washington, we saw very little of her, but we always exchanged Christmas cards. Barbara would send photos and notes about her girls, Mari, and their trips.

We were saddened when we heard that she was very ill. It was comforting to know that her daughters loved her, and were doing everything possible to care for her. As time passes, they will cherish her memory and thank God that they were there for their Mother, when she needed them most.

Sincerely,

Denny and Jackie

Mari and I were talking about readings from the Bible for Barb’s memorial service, and she suggested the “love is patient, love is kind” passage from 1st Corithians. I told her that this was a passage that is traditionally read at weddings, so that it wasn’t really a good fit for a memorial service. But then I went and re-read this passage, which says:

Love is patient, love is kind.

It is not jealous, it is not pompous,

It is not inflated, it is not rude,

it does not seek its own interests,

it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury,

it does not rejoice over wrongdoing

but rejoices with the truth.

It bears all things, believes all things,

hopes all things, endures all things.

Love never fails.

Now as I understand it, this passage is not only describing love, but it is describing God as well. But as I read this passage, it dawned on me that this passage actually was a pretty darn good description of Barb, who really did reflect and model God’s love in so many was, no matter what the situation or the circumstances.

I will miss her

Barbara was such a great person and took responsibility so seriously. She was fun loving and cared so much about her daughters and friends. We remember her loving the sun Maui and swimming. She was good at that too. She is in a better place now where the sun shines all the time, the palm trees wave in the warm breeze and the ocean is like a beutiful jewel where she can float all day.

We will miss you, Barb.

Julie and Kirsten: I’m so very sorry to hear about your mom’s passing. My mom shared with me your email update and all I can say is how proud your mom must have been of you two! It’s been many years since we’ve seen each other but I remember fondly our annual visits on Christmas Eve and at the Twin Lakes Bazaar. I’m so glad to hear that you’re both doing so well and that you were so good to your mom. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this painful time and wish you all the best.

Please accept my condolences on Barbara’s passing. I worked at Teledyne Solutions Inc. TSI in Huntsville. I was there in the begining of AST and made nearly 200 trips to Seattle. Barbara was in many of those meetings. She contributed a lot to the success of AST and its contribution to the government’s needs. May god bless you and your family. Retired TSI Employee, Karl
