Barbara Joan (Lindstrand) Kearns passed away on October 31, 2024, at the age of 90 in Des Moines, Washington. She was born on March 2, 1934, in Tacoma, WA and raised in Redondo, WA. She established her home and family in Des Moines, WA and has been a lifelong member of this community.
Joan graduated from Federal Way High School, and following working for a bank for a few years embarked on a commendable 30-year career at Puget Sound Energy, initially starting as a clerk in the General Stores of the original Puget Sound Power & Light. Through her hard work and determination, she ascended to more responsible roles, eventually retiring as a Commodity Specialist and Buyer for the company.
A hard-working single mother, Joan built a good life for herself and her son, Kevin, during the challenging times of the 1950s and 1960s. Her retirement years were filled with reading, some travel, and unwavering support for the Seattle Mariners.
Joan is survived by her son, Kevin Kearns; daughter-in-law, Chris Fischer; two granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Margaret Lindstrand, and her sister, Betty Bergquist.
No memorial services will be held. A Celebration of Joan’s life is being planned for January 2025 at Wesley Gardens in Des Moines, WA. The family has entrusted Bonney Watson in SeaTac, WA, with the arrangements. Joan’s legacy of perseverance and love will be cherished and remembered by all who knew her.
