Barbara Lee Archuleta-Scott was born Barbara Lee Compau September 21, 1937. The daughter of Raymond and Ellna Compau, she grew up in the Seattle area where she spent her childhood years. Her passion at an early age was roller skating, both for fun and in pairs competition. She won her first competition at the age of 12 and skated competitively into her mid 30s. In her teens, she spent many of her summers at her grandparents 60 acre farm near Touchet, WA where many of her fond childhood memories were formed.
After graduating high school, Barbara took her first job, a secretarial position in Seattle, before moving and holding a similar position in Bellingham. She later moved to Portland, OR where she worked for West Coast Airways and met her future husband Charles Archuleta whom she married in January 1966. Her position with the airline provided her travel benefits of which she and Charles took advantage traveling to Hawaii, Japan, Italy, France, Spain among others. They later moved to San Francisco, CA where they started a family having two children, a daughter Shawna Lee and a son Christopher Charles. Barbara took a position as a legal secretary and found her calling, spending the next nearly 30 years in that profession.
In 1971, the family moved to Seattle where Barbara continued her legal secretary career working downtown for a large law firm, Bogle & Gates. She was a very active woman who continued to roller skate and also enjoyed bowling. She became an avid runner participating in many races, most notably the Sound to Narrows run in Tacoma and the Bay to Breakers run in San Francisco. One of her greatest joys was watching the Seattle Seahawks. A season ticket holder since their inception in 1976, Barbara was a huge fan. Although later giving up her season tickets, she rarely missed a game on TV and could hold her own with her knowledge of the game. In the early 1980s Barbara was diagnosed with melanoma and later with a “terminal” brain tumor. Being an amazingly strong woman, she somehow overcame the odds and survived….a testament to the kind of person she was.
After 29 years of marriage, when her husband passed in 1995, she moved to eastern Washington to Walla Walla where she lived next door to her mother. It was there that she met Duane Scott whom she married in May 1998. They enjoyed being together just watching movies or playing backgammon or pinochle. They also liked to spend time with friends hosting parties or attending local dances. In addition, they loved to travel. Owners of various recreational vehicles through the years, they traveled often to visit friends and family, and visited many of the National Parks in the western states. Years later, Barbara was again diagnosed with cancer, this time breast cancer, but again showed her strength and beat it. Unfortunately, in late 2014 she was diagnosed yet again with cancer, ovarian cancer, and this time it was caught too late and was too much to overcome. After 17 years of marriage and at the age of 77, Barbara passed away September 17, 2015. She is survived by her husband Duane Scott, her brother Harold Compau, her daughter Shawna (Dennis) Williams, her son Chris (Julie) Archuleta, five grandchildren (Nicholas Grech, Savannah & Chandler Williams, and Brett & Elise Archuleta), and two great grandchildren (Alicia & Yanela Grech).
A loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend…….Barbara will be so dearly missed but never forgotten.
In God we trust…….in heaven we shall see her again!
Barbara, you are an incredible lady, and had an impact on my life. Thank you for the opportunity to know you and your wonderful family. You will be missed, but we will see you again.

To the Love of My Life
We had 17 amazing years together. Not nearly long enough because those were the happiest years of my life. We were still on our honeymoon. Only God could have forged a marriage bond that strong. The plaque on the wall in our home says it all.
