Benjamin L. Manaois died on July 19, 2016. He suffered from multiple organ failures due to illnesses.
He is survived by his wife, Rosalinda Ofrancia; his son, Mylo and spouse Michelle, along with their children, Marie, Myla & Marcus; his sister, Milagros Adan and spouse, Ding Adan, and their children, Menard, Melanie and Melody; his brother Mario and spouse Naty and their children Guada, Dondon and Maja.
He was born in McKinley, Binmaley Pangasinan, Philippines on March 9, 1954, the youngest of the three siblings. His father, Antonio Manaois, worked at the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital as a hospital attendant while his mother, Feliza Manaois, kept the house and took care of their three children, May, Mario and Ben.
Ben graduated from Luzon Colleges and got his Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology in 1976. He passed his licensure exam in 1977. Shortly after, he met his future wife Rose. Ben quickly began working as a Medical Technologist in a Community Hospital in Lingayen, Pangasinan. Then he worked at the Governor’s Office as a Provincial Med Tech. On August 26, 1979 their one and only child, Mylo, was born. He worked for several more years at different local hospitals. He then decided to work abroad and worked in Military Hospital in Saudi Arabia for 2 years. Ben was not happy being away from his son so he finished his contract then went back to the Philippines.
An opportunity opened up for him to travel abroad. In 1989 he set foot in the United States. Rosalinda and Mylo followed him a year after. Ben started his career here in the US as a spreader in a textile company. In addition, Ben helped Uncle Jimmy with cleaning restaurants. He did a lot of hard labor jobs until he was hired at Group Health as a Lab Assistant for 26 long years.
In 2015 he had some health issues that forced him to retire early.
He loved going back to the Philippines every first quarter of the year and never missed a year. He loved to be around his friends, exchanging jokes and stories. During the summer, he loved to go smelting. He would stand in the water for a long as it takes to get the maximum catch. There were days that he would come home with a full bucket of smelt and some days that he would catch zero. He always had a connection with his friends and would call them frequently. Ben was generous, soft hearted and a loving person. His generosity was remarkable. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and an amazing friend. He will be mourned deeply by all who know him. Most of all, he and his legacy will be remembered.
