She married Howard Tangedahl on Aug. 3, 1979, in Las Vegas, Nev. He preceded her in death on Sept. 26, 1990, in Seattle. She worked as a medical assistant for a medical office in Seattle and in the billing department of various insurance companies before moving to Sioux City. While in Sioux City, she worked as the lifeline coordinator for Mercy Medical Center. She was a longtime volunteer for Mercy and for Lamb and Community Theatres in Sioux City.
She was a member of the Highlanders Drill team and the Western Vigilantes’ Sidekicks, both in Seattle. She enjoyed reading, skating, dining out, traveling, music and movies.
Survivors include her four children, Michael Tangedahl of Sioux City, Kimberly and her husband, Chris Grissom of Rhinelander, Wis., Todd Kelley of SeaTac, Wash., and Pamela Kelley of Kirkland, Wash.; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elaine ‘Pat’ and her husband, Bruno Zittlau of Seattle and Carol and her husband, Roy Bennett of Everett, Wash.; four brothers and their wives, Richard and Linda Welcher of Shoreline, Wash., Robert and Carol Welcher of Reno, Nev., Tom and Charlotte Welcher of Everett and Donald Welcher of Juanita, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a granddaughter, Kayla Grissom; sisters, Helen Nichols, Janice Dawson and Shirley Schad; and a brother and his wife, Roy ‘Buster’ and Beverly Welcher.
Betty was a giving person, she enjoyed working with kids and staying involved with different events. I will miss her. Even though we had not seen each other for a little while, our friendship was just as strong as it has always been it will remain that way always. Love & Friendship Always ~
I praise God for the blessings Betty has bestowed on my family. She took in my eldest grandchild and cared for him for many years. She always gave of herself to others. Volunteering in many venues, rescuing people when they were hurting and driving all over the place to lend a hand. She found her joy and purpose in helping others.
I rejoice that she now understands just how precious she is in the sight of the Lord. I do not think she realized her value while on earth, that trait befalls many of us.
Our lives here are but a twinkling of an eye in comparison to eternity. I look forward to the day I will see her again as we join hands and dance around the throne of the Most High!
May God fill her family with peace and ease their grief. I ask this in Jesus name.
I am so thankful to the Lord for Bettys life. She was always willing to help others. We have not seen her for many years but have many memories of her in Seattle at her home in Greenlake.
I pray that the Lord wraps His arms around her family and friends and that He gives them peace.
She will be missed…….
