Obituary
Our dear friend, mother, and beloved Betty left this world on June 23rd, age 90, to be with her Lord and Savior. She was a native of Pittsburgh, born to Homer and Mabel Griffin. As a teenager, she took the streetcar to attend Pirates games and share Lifesavers with the bullpen. She attended Pitt and made Delta Zeta friends for life before marrying Harlow at 19 and heading for North Dakota. She and Harlow moved to West Seattle in 1949 where they made lifelong friends at First Lutheran Church.
The family grew with children, Don, Carol, Cris, and Dave. Betty and Harlow were active in Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and the church. A move to Normandy Park in 1967 provided more room for her garden and a welcoming new church home at Prince of Peace Lutheran. She kept the kids in line, and always opened up her home to scouts, youth parties and the traditional Norwegian lefse-making parties. For a time, she enjoyed working retail at Frederick & Nelson. During retirement, she cherished traveling with Harlow to Europe, the Holy Land, and around the U.S. in their RV. They also found new ways to serve the church and community. And most Thursday nights: church choir.
Betty is survived by her beloved big brother, Art, her children Don (and wife Phyllis), Carol (husband Greg), Christine, David (wife Meg), grandchildren (Bryan, Kristen, Michelle, Katie, Alexandria and Collin), and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by Harlow, after 60 years of marriage.
She loved trying new recipes (even for company), digging in the garden, listening to the Sonics, Seahawks, or Mariners, and going to the Seattle Symphony. She cherished spending as much time with her family as possible and faithfully kept in touch with friends and loved ones. Just under the surface was her spunk, her quick wit and wacky sense of humor which brought joy to all who knew her. Betty was grateful for God’s loving presence and longed for all to know that peace.
Betty moved to Pasadena, CA, after the passing of Harlow, where she lived a few blocks from daughters Carol and Cris. She almost became a Dodger fan. Thank you to Pasadena Highlands staff and especially to her friend and caregiver, Linda Please share memories at www.bonneywatson.com.
