Obituary
Betty Fowler Andrews
Betty Andrews, age 86, of Federal Way, Washington, passed away on February 9, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital following a sudden illness.
Betty was born to Carl and Lila Scheele on December 12, 1925 in Santa Monica, California, the second of three children. She grew up in Idaho and later moved to Washington, received her nursing degree from St. Joseph Hospital in Tacoma, and was employed as a nurse for most of her life. She struck up a pen-pal acquaintance with Richard Fowler while he was serving as a U.S. Marine during WWII, which culminated in their marriage in 1946. Betty and Richard were blessed with three children, Betty Jean (BJ), Richard, and Steve. Widowed in 1972, Betty remarried in 1974 to Chart Andrews. Betty and Chart enjoyed traveling throughout the United States in their RV. After seeing Chart through a long illness and his passing in 1992, Betty resumed her travels with both family and friends.
Both artistic and astute, Betty was very active until the end, remaining true to and conducting herself with dignity and integrity throughout her life. She delighted in her “yarden”, and took great satisfaction in the blooms and bounty her careful tending produced. She served as Treasurer for the Pacific Northwest Chapter Myasthenia Gravis Foundation for over 15 years, and volunteered her nursing skills by taking blood pressure readings at the Federal Way Commons. She was a regular visitor at the Federal Way Community Center, was active in the Red Hat Society, and often helped out friends and neighbors with transportation. Betty thoroughly enjoyed and greatly valued her dear friends, appreciated her Federal Way neighborhood, and treasured her neighbors and their children, to whom she was “Grandma Betty”.
She was preceded in death by her daughter BJ, her first husband Richard, and her second husband Chart. She is survived by her brother Kenneth (Jan) Scheele of Gig Harbor, sons Richard (Shirley) Fowler of Puyallup and Steve (Rebecca) Fowler of Olympia, grandchildren Sara (David) Wohlenhaus of Crowley, Louisiana, David (Jennifer) Fowler of Puyallup, Shandee (Shawn) Fowler of Olympia, and Colin Fowler of Olympia, and great-grandchildren Nolan, Mädchen, Gabrial and Valerie.
Betty’s memorial service will be held at 11AM on Saturday April 14 at Christ Lutheran Church, 2501 SW 320th, Federal Way, WA 98023.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Pacific Northwest Chapter Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America, Inc., P.O. Box 58785, Renton, WA 98058-1785 or the charity of your choice.
I’ll always remember Betty at the family picnics. I also, married into the Fowler family and have precious memories of everyone. Betty always had a smile on her face and was one who would always come up to you and greet you. Betty you will surely be missed by all. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
We hope you will enjoy the celebration of Bonnie’s life.
May God’s peace and comfort surround and support you in your sorrow as you cherish Betty’s life and may you rejoice in God’s unending blessings and steadfast faithfulness. We’re keeping you in our prayers.

She always had a smile for you and we had fun
laughing with her.

Betty was a great lady and I have known her for many years thru Federal Way walking group. I am so thankful that she was able to leave this earth in the manner she always wished. You will always have great memories of her.
Betty was a great help with the senior bingo games at the Federal Way Community Center. She was thoughtful and considerate of all. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her.
Mom, it’s the day before Easter Sunday-I’m really missing you. Ordinarily we would be together preparing some of the food for Easter dinner. I am Blessed beyond measure to have known you all these many years. I love you and will never forget you. God Bless you. Love, Shirley
what a sweet lady she was to all.
I grieve for Betty. She was such a good friend..we didn’t meet until the 1980’s, after she married Chart and they were “snowbirding” in Southern California in the winters.
Chart and my husband, JR, were first cousins and they enjoyed each other so much, and it made the relationship extra special because Betty and I loved each other, too. I am thankful that she didn’t suffer a long time; I know she would be too.
I met Betty through the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation Pacific Northwest Chapter in the early 2000’s when my son, Jim, was diagnosed with MG. She was always involved and in the middle of events.. I last saw her this past fall at the MG Walk. She seemed tireless always “keeping on keeping on”!and I loved her smile. I am sure it was more and more difficult for her to get around but she kept going! The picture on this site is wonderful! I will miss her!
Betty was a dear friend and confidant. We shared a lot of fun and memorable times. She was always up for anything. For many years we took a bus to some casino at least once a month. We took a lot of trips with the Catholic church. She would always say I am the only Protestant here but I am used to it (Her nursing training was in a Catholic school and she was the only Protestant). I miss Betty and think of her often. I have a lot of memories.
I will miss you Betty!
Dinners at the Alabasters will not be the same! Her talents always delivered with her great sence of humor most definitely made for a very unique beautiful woman ! I value the stories she told me about her younger days, when she was in the hospital, and she said she would give anything to dance again ! Always a smile on her face, and her “one liners” always got a laugh out of me! No one can make a Birthday Cake like you Betty!
Betty was a wonderful woman. She will be missed by my family but we will all hold onto the fond memories we have of her. It’s so hard to believe that she is gone, but her spirit is alive. She was an amazing individual whom embraced life and I am so glad to have had the chance to know her and call her my friend.
We first met Betty in 2006 at an MG meeting after moving from RI to Washington. Her smile and that sparkle in her eyes made us feel welcomed immediiately. She invited us into her home and her heart and we shared many great times together at MG events, conferences and last year at the MG Walks. Betty always gave 110% and kept us all on our toes. She was a wonderful friend and we miss her.
