Betty Jean Hope, died May 15, 2008 at Providence Mt. St. Vincent. Born Betty Jean McCullough, she was the third of four children and the only daughter. Her lifelong fondness of horses began when she rode her Appaloosa pony to a one room rural school. Her second love was music and as a child learned to play the piano. At the age of fourteen, her family left Missouri and moved to Yakima, WA. where she graduated from the Yakima High School in 1938. After high school she was admitted to the University of Southern California School of Music where she continued with her study of the piano. At this time, she also learned to fly an open cockpit airplane. When WWII began, she left college to join the government’s Air Traffic Service. It was here that she met her husband Mark, when she was assigned the duty as his training instructor. After their marriage, they moved to Normandy Park. Betty served the community as a library board member and was a devotee to music and the arts. She is survived by her husband Mark; son Gregory Sandra daughter Kathleen Philip; her brothers Donald and David McCullough; granddaughters Flannery and Annabeth Lucas and grandson Kyle Wilke. A loving wife. A caring mother. A talented musician. A great chef. An accomplished seamstress and gracious hostess. She balanced it all into a full life and did it her special way.
