Betty Kay Sims

January 26, 1933 - December 26, 2022

Obituary

Betty Kay (Bangerter) Sims passed away, December 26, 2022, following many years of poor health. She was less than a month away from her 90th birthday.

Kay was born on January 26, 1933 in Salt Lake City to Vera Betty (Jones) Bangerter and George White Bangerter.

Her formative years were in Burien, Washington. She attended Lake Burien Elementary and then Highline High School. Ultimately, her family moved back to Utah where she attended her final 2 years of high school.

After attending nursing school, she married Robert “Bob” James Sims on November 17, 1953. Soon after their marriage, they moved to Burien, Washington, where they raised their family.

Kay was a loving mother. She not only gave birth to 5 children (3 girls and 2 boys), but also assisted in raising 3 foster children. Kay’s husband Bob observed, “There was never anything in Kay’s life more important than being a good wife and an effective, loving mother.”

Kay’s devotion to her husband and children was clear. We felt love from this saintly woman. She tenderly served us all, during our times of joy and sorrow, health and sickness, success and disappointment.

She was politically active in causes related to improving the Seattle community and strengthening education and families throughout her life.  She volunteered serving with youth and loved musical theater.

The gospel of Jesus Christ has been a primary focus for Kay Sims. Many examples could be shared of her putting the Savior and His Church first in her life. This priority influenced and blessed her husband and children, along with many other people.

Betty Kay Sims is survived by her loving husband Robert James Sims, her 5 children, 18 grandchildren and 20 (soon to be 21) great–grandchildren.
