In Memory of Betty Martin–

I first became acquainted with Betty during the production of the show “Music Man” in Edmonds. This was a fund-raiser for the Stevens Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. I played in the pit orchestra for that show and for subsequent productions by the Sound Expression Theater in which Betty played significant roles. We also crossed paths in similar roles with the Seattle Gilbert and Sullivan Society.

It was a joy to know Betty. Her abilities with music have been widely appreciated, and her contributions are well-remembered. She will be missed.

Blessings to all, Jim Erickson.

Dear Les,

I know how much Betty enjoyed her music and you’ve always been such a strong supporter and you had an admirable marriage that I know you will truly miss her as will I.

We often shared many of those musical moments dating back to the old Rathskeller days up to the Seattle Symphony Chorale. I will always remember her voice and she’s serenading the angels now.

My deepest sympathy’s in your hardest of times.

Lester and Family…I was so sad to read of Betty’s passing…I knew her as a custormer of the Des Moines Drug Store and thoroughly enjoyed our interactions. She was a very talented and caring individual. I was blessed to have been able to hear her wonderful voice in song and was delighted that she shared that with me. I know that you, Lester will really miss her and my heart goes out to you. May God Bless you and keep you in this time of sorrow. If I can be of assistance at any time please feel free to ask me. The choir that is life is missing one of it’s beautiful participants but the heavenly choir today sings with boundless energy and peace. Be well, Lester…

Lester & Dorothy:

I was saddened to read Betty’s obit. in the Times. I know she is in a good place. I wrote an email to my uncle, Jack Latta in Gig Harbor, & my sister, Marianne Maiden in Phoenix, AZ. My brother, John Maiden, doesn’t have email, but I will attempt to let him know. Both of my parents are now deceased with my Dad dying in January 2003, so that covers the relatives that knew Betty in my family. I am married again and live in Shoreline with my husband & his 2 young children. My 3 grown-children are in their early 20’s and busy.

I will try to get to the service on Tuesday, but if I don’t, you are in my thoughts & prayers.

Sincerely, Debbie Maiden Baden

We remember Betty as a truly wonderful singer, performer and happy person. Of her many outstanding roles, we will never forget her the beauty of her performance as the gentle Solveig in “Peer Gynt” at the Aqua Theater in 1965. Our sympathies and best wishes to Lester and her family. Betty gave us all so much joy.

I read in this mornings paper that Betty has passed. How sorry for so many. She was very generous with her very wonderful voice. She sang and entertained so many times in the workshops for the Seattle Symphony Chorale. I admired her spunk and humor, and her friendship. RIP Betty. Well done thou good and faithful servant of your Lord.
