Betty Mae Dowd – Obituary
Betty Mae (Lish) Dowd passed away February 26, 2018 at her home in Federal Way, WA. Betty was born May 1st, 1934 in Sheridan WY. Her family moved from Sheridan to Hermiston Oregon where she, her sister, and two brothers all finished high school. Betty always had an incredible work ethic, she moved to Seattle to pursue a career with the airlines as a stewardess. She did work for the airlines, however, decided on a different path after meeting Verlin Dowd, who would become her husband for the next 57 years. She and Dowd loved, worked, traveled, and lived life to the fullest. Betty was a successful sales person and won awards from Air Canada and later Continental Enterprises. Her true passion was witnessed in her gardening, sewing, and crafting. Betty’s flower garden not only produced vibrant bouquets that attended all family events and countless occasions for friends, it also contained heirloom plants passed down from the family. Whether it was a wedding dress or clothes for a doll, she could translate your vision in to a one of a kind finished garment. Through her crafting skills Betty provided pompoms for the girls soccer team, a decorated heart that traveled to all family milestones since 1972, and too many other items to list. Betty also attended all of these family milestones, making a point to stay strongly connected with her entire family, and always there with a smile and a story to tell. She will be missed by all who knew her. Betty was preceded in death by her sister Evelyn and her husband, Dowd. She will be forever remembered by her brothers Norman and Donald Lish, her numerous nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 10th, at Bonney-Watson Washington Memorial Funeral Home, SeaTac, at 9:30am. There will be a celebration of life immediately following the services at Sammy’s Pizza 1039 Regents BLVD Fircrest WA 98466.
