Obituary
Betty Orene Mettler
Betty was born in Esterville, Iowa September 21st, 1927, and passed away February 10th, 2006. Born Betty Orene Jones, she moved to the Seattle area when she was 1-1/2 years old and was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Cartner at the age of 3.
Betty and her husband Ron went through all 12 years of school together and graduated from Foster High School in 1945. They married October 19th, 1951.
Betty and Ron have 3 children, daughter Cheri and husband Don Norris, daughter Dawn and husband Rick Lockrem, and son Greg and wife Patty Mettler. They have 6 grandchildren – Rian and Kelli Norris, Savannah and Tony Lockrem and Jamie and Justin Mettler.
Betty was a wonderful homemaker, cook and seamstress. She was well known for the wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses she made and for the many theme Birthday cakes she made for the grandchildren over the years. Other hobbies included bowling and spending time with her family.
Betty suffered health problems over the past several years including 5 strokes yet never knew the meaning of the word complain. Her strength, courage and spunk were an inspiration to all who knew and loved her. She will be sorely missed but never forgotten.
So sorry to hear of Mrs. Mettler’s death. Although Greg and I have lost touch over the years, I will always remember the many great times we had together, especially the time at WSU when we got 2 tickets to Bill Cosby in the front row and had our Mom’s sit in those seats. They came back after the concert and their sides and faces hurt from laughing so hard. Kathy’s and my Best Wishes and prayers go out to the family at this time.
to have two mothers in my life…..i’m a lucky guy…..
i will always remember you through your daughter and all the grandchildren….don
I was so lucky to get to know my grandma she is a great person and i will always remember her.
Betty & I Jean started 1st grade together at Foster Grade School, from there on to Foster High School. We double dated with our future husbands. She was always sweet, and a bit sharp when she needed to be. I admired her artistic talents, her sensible nature,
Grandma Betty always had a sparkle in her eyes, especially when she was observing her grandchildren. Though I only met her after her first stroke, Betty still had the feisty spirit that is so often talked about in her families stories of the past.
you taught me what a salad plate was used for. we had a nice sit down lunch, and i started to eat off my big plate, everybody laughed, i had no idea you ate off of a separate plate. and the twin holly hobbie blouses you made for dawn and i, thank you for sharing your motherly ways i will miss you much. with love carolyn
I will always remember the way Betty loved to go to Cheri and Dons house for the special Seafood dinners they cooked for her. I will always remember how they both treated my daughter as if she was one of their grandchildren. Betty was a wonderful person and we will miss her alot.

I will really miss you Grandma Betty. I loved to come and visit you in the nursing home. I love the Guardian Angel bear that you gave to me. I took it to school when we had pajama day. Love, Taelor
