Obituary
Beulah Liv Oakley
Beulah Liv Oakley was born on January 4, 1922 in Anchorage, AK, the daughter of Melvin and Alfhild Holben. She moved to Seattle at a young age after losing her mother and spent most of her life raised by her aunt Freda Pedersen, where she always kept her first cousins as close as the two brothers she already had. In 1939 she was proud to graduate from Broadway High School in Seattle and continue on to secretarial school. She always encouraged education for all of her children and grandchildren.
Beulah married Donald Oakley in 1941; together they kept up with six children and enjoyed 70 years of marriage. Beulah was always available to take care of anyone who needed her. She will be remembered and dearly loved as a mother, and grandmother—and we will not forget the countless winning hands of solitaire, and the cinnamon rolls that always seemed hot out of the oven.
Beulah is survived by her sons Robert Oakley (Jackie) and Steven Oakley (Amy); daughters Nancy Manning (Rick), Sally Erickson and Donna Oakley, (Shirley Oakley Hewson); brother Arthur Holben; special cousin Norma Rysemus; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her beloved son John Oakley.
A celebration of Beulah’s life will be held at Dumas Bay Centre in Federal Way, WA on Sunday, October 13, 2013 at 2pm. Remembrances may be made in her memory to Franciscan Hospice House in University Place, WA.
“True love lasts a lifetime.”
Beulah was so loved by members of the Senior Exercise Class that she attended with her daughter, Donna. She was always smiling and enjoyed interaction with us all. I shall miss her terribly. She was the perfect example of living life happily, with hope and enthusiasm.
