Obituary
Beva Pauline Storm
1909 – 2005
Beva Pauline Storm passed away peacefully on November 16, 2005. She was born Beva Pauline Scantlin on July 24, 1909, the youngest of seven children of Jim and Nanny Scantlin. Beva graduated from high school in 1927, and it took ten years for her to complete her college education, graduating in 1939. She has always been proud of her college degree because she worked very hard to earn it.
Beva got her first job as a teacher by riding bareback on one of their farm horses to find the school directors, working out in the woods, to apply for a teaching job.
Beva then did Welfare work in Joplin, Missouri, just as World War II broke out. She met Corporal Calvin E. Storm on May 1, 1943, and on September 18, 1943, they were married.
The family moved to Renton, Washington, in 1946 following the birth of their first child, Carol Diane, in Joplin, Missouri, in 1945. Nancy Elizabeth was born in Renton in 1949.
Beva did some limited substitute teaching and home tutoring of students who were falling behind in some of their subjects. She served on the advisory board of International Order of Rainbow for Girls Southgate Assembly, while also being active in Eastern Star, of which she was a member for over 50 years. She was a Past Worthy Matron, having served in that capacity in a small chapter in Missouri.
Beva was active in Project Outreach driving seniors to the doctor, she served on the Juvenile Court Conference Committee, and was also on the steering committee for the new Kent Senior Center.
Beva was a remarkable woman and a strong influence for faith in God, church attendance, and duty and responsibility to family and community. We will miss her very much.
Just wanted you to know that we are thinking of your family at this time and we hope to see you at the services on Tuesday and the church. Sincerely, Charlotte
