Obituary

Catherine L. Roosevelt was born on November 21, 1941 in Independence, Louisiana to Eddie White and Bertha Battise. Catherine was preceded in death by her parents; spouse: Theodore Roosevelt; son: Darryle White; sisters: Bertha Smith, Elnora Wells, Alean Pitts, Josephine McGee, Edwiner White, Daisy Mae White and Lucinda Johnson; and brothers:  Ernest White, Leon White, Thomas White, Eddie White, Edward White, Willie White and Louis White. 

Catherine was raised in Hammond, Louisiana and attended high school at Greenville Park.  She left Hammond in March of 1960 to join the Army where she served until she was honorably discharged on March 13, 1962.

To many of her friends and family, she was called “Cat” or “Aunt Cat”.  This name followed her from childhood and from Louisiana to the Military and later to the State of Washington where she relocated to in 1971.

Catherine met and married Theodore Roosevelt on January 22, 1979.  They relocated to Tucson, Arizona for several years, and later relocated back to the Seattle area. She served faithfully as a member and usher of the Greater New Bethel Church in Seattle and Morning Star Baptist Church in Tucson, Arizona.

Much of Catherine’s work career was with the Corp of Engineers and as a Debt Service Representative with the Office of Housing and Urban Development until her retirement.

Catherine leaves to cherish her memories her grandchildren: D’ LaRay (Cortnie), Theodore (Breanna), Brianna White, and Ausha Byng; seven great-grandchildren: Jamiah, Matea, Theodore, Jr., Ashton and Noah (twins), Kassius and Zoe; brother: Lawrence (Sharon) White, Sr.; special nieces:  Deidra Haley (Mark); Sheree Johnson, and Starshema (Quanda) Jackson (Tyron) from Hammond, Louisiana;  and numerous cousins, nieces and friends.
