Obituary

Cecil Clayton Henley, 94, passed away February 6, 2013, in Renton. He was born October 15, 1918, at home near Middletown, Kansas, to Curt and Lela Henley.

After attending school and working on the farm, Cecil joined the Navy in 1942.  While in the Navy stationed at Corpus Christi, Texas, he married Frances Lawrence in 1943.

After being discharged from the Navy, Cecil and Frances returned to Fredonia, Kansas, and after working there for some time moved to a farm. Moving from the farm to Chanute, Kansas, Cecil sold real estate out of his own office.

In 1962 Cecil got a job working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a real estate negotiator and moved his family to Riverdale, North Dakota. In 1971, Cecil and Frances moved to Seattle, WA, again working as a real estate negotiator with the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers. He traveled in WA, OR, ID, and MT and bought land for government projects, including the bulk mail station south of Federal Way. He retired in 1976 after having open heart surgery.

He spent his retirement traveling with Frances, working in his yard at their home in Burien, making birdhouses, small tables and stools, and other pieces in his garage. He enjoyed his family and loved taking daily rides around the area.

Cecil was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Frances, and his brother, Floyd. He is survived by: daughter, Carol Franks of Renton, WA; son, Frank Henley, Cashmere, WA; grandchildren, Brian Henley (Chris) of Sammamish, WA; Jason Henley (Elayne) of Kirkland, WA and Derek Abdella (Tracy) Puyallup, WA; great grandchildren Emma, Makenzie, Drew, and Mason; niece Lela Black (Joe) of Fredonia, KS; nephews Ed Henley (Roma) of Fredonia, KS and Glenn Henley (Carol) of Baldwin, MD.

A big thanks to Sweet Care Adult Family Home in Renton for taking such great care of Cecil for the past 2 years.

What a wonderful long life Cecil had. May he be at peace now with his wife of so many years. I had the chance to meet him and his wife with my neighbor and good friend, his daughter Carol. On a couple of our excursions, Carol and I would drop by to check in on both of them. They were a sweet couple. Carol has given alot of her heart and time insuring that both parents were taken care of. She’s had alot to deal with and did it with pride and honor. My thoughts go with her and her family.

We always enjoyed visiting with Cecil and Francis. He was a good guy with a funny sense of humor. My mother- his cousin- always looked foreward to visiting with them on her visits out here in Washington. She also enjoyed his phone calls. We’re all going to miss him, as we’ve missed Francis the last few years. And I would second the recognition for Carol- she was very involved with their care, especially during their last few years. God Bless her and her family.
