Obituary
CEDRIC FONTAINE STRONG was born on July 17, 1950 in Seattle, WA to the union of the late Joseph Lewis Strong, Sr. and Carrie Johnetta Strong (Simpson). He had three siblings, one older brother: Joseph Strong, Jr. and two younger sisters: Deborah Strong and Cheryl Strong. He was a proud brother and often reminded his siblings of his position by saying “I’m your brother!”
Cedric was an adventurous youth. He grew up in the Yesler Terrace, where when he wasn’t out playing with friends, hanging out at the Yesler Terrace Community Center (playing basketball) or mowing lawns to make money to buy his first pair of sneakers, he could be found with his beloved grandmother Priscilla Simpson, where he would indulge in her homemade sweets. He LOVED sweets! Cedric was a Boys & Girls Club member and attended Trinity Church where he served as an altar boy and participated in numerous activities.
Cedric graduated from Pacific High School and children came soon after. He was blessed with two daughters: Rhonda Strong (husband: Lonnie / grandchildren: Khafre & Kemet) and Nicolle Strong (grandchild: Syade) from his union with Cheryl Weldon-Montgomery. He later had the son he always wanted, Fredrick Bomber (grandchildren: Moniece, Fucahoe & Theory) from a union with Cheryl Bomber.
Cedric’s life love was Diane Dukes, who he spent over 40+ years with and was affectionally given the nick name “Big Daddy.” Together they created a home that all were welcome, especially children. Cedric had a special way with children, and they always seemed to gravitate to him. He grew to have special relationships with all the Dukes kids and grandkids but developed a special place in his heart in helping to raise Chuck, Rashaun, Mark, Passion, Denali, RayRay and Deomonte.
To his grandchildren he was known as Papa and to his nieces and nephews he was their favorite Uncle Ceddy!
Cedric was a genuine good guy who loved family and always made lasting memories. I’m sure everyone who knew him has a lasting memory that can only be followed by laughter. He had a warm heart and a big smile. He loved cars, was a good cook and loved a good Dick’s cheeseburger, fries and strawberry shake.
Cedric is preceded in death by his son, Fredrick Bomber.
He is going to be missed something awful and there will never be another like him! He leaves to cherish his memory, mother: Carrie Strong, siblings: Joseph Strong, Jr., Deborah Strong and Cheryl Strong, children: Rhonda Strong-Irby, Nicolle Strong, life partner: Diane Dukes and a host of stepchildren, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends.
