Christa Louise Haugan
December 4, 1951 - February 17, 2006
Obituary
Too early for all who knew her, Christa Louise Haugan died of complications from ovarian cancer on Friday, February 17th. She was 54 years old. Her gentle heart and the compassion she showed others will be missed. She was born in Tacoma and lived her younger years in the “Old Town” area with her two brothers and four sisters. When she was in the seventh grade, her family moved to Sequim. At Sequim High School, Christa excelled in sports and was also a cheerleader. She developed many lifelong friendships from her high school days who have supported her throughout her struggle with cancer. She attended Western Washington University and then moved to the Seattle area. She married her high school sweetheart and had two wonderful daughters, Courtney and Erin. Unfortunately, that marriage ended in divorce. In 1993, she met and later married her current husband Luther. Together they enjoyed many of the wonderful experiences that defined her life. She learned to scuba dive and took many diving trips to the Caribbean, Mexico and Hawaii. She and Luther also owned a cruising boat for years that took them on numerous adventures around Puget Sound, Desolation Sound and many points between. Christa loved to travel and visiting her daughter Courtney, while she was living in Germany after university, was among her more memorable. When her other daughter Erin, decided to “follow in her mother’s footsteps” and attend, then graduate from Western Washington University, Christa could not have been more pleased. A long time dream of owning a beach house on Hood Canal was realized a few years ago and Christa spent many hours gardening on the property, clamming and crabbing on the beach, and she even developed an appreciation of oysters off her own beach. She mostly enjoyed just relaxing on the deck in her LaFuma chair enjoying the beautiful view across Hood Canal. In her occupation as a skin care specialist, Christa valued working one on one with people and she especially enjoyed her interaction with doctors, nurses, patients, office staff and her many co-workers. Christa cherished the time she spent with her daughters, her husband, her family and her many friends. Now that she is gone, all whose lives she touched will cherish the precious little time we had with her. Christa is survived by her husband Luther, her daughters Courtney and Erin, her brother and sisters Chuck Brenda, Cam, Carol all in the Seattle area, Carla Los Angeles, Colleen Norm Carmel, Ca, her mother Roberta Russell Tucson, Az, and her foster parents Annette Steve Roy Walla Walla. Christa was preceded in death by her father Thomas, and her brother Chad. A memorial service will be held at Pine Lake Covenant Church on Saturday February 25th at 1:00pm 1715 228th Ave SE, Sammamish, WA 425 392-8636. In lieu of gifts, memorials may be made to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund at Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason, c/o VM Foundation, P.O. Box 1930, Seattle, WA 98111.
For the few times I was around Christa, I found her to be a very lovely and caring person and you just felt so comfortable being around her. It is so sad that this world will be without such a wonderful person. Christa will forever be in my memories. I wish the best for Luther during this difficult time. Luther’s cousin from Minnesota
Words can not say how sorry we are to hear that Christa lost her battle with cancer. She was such a lovely person and we were looking forward to seeing alot of her here on the canal as our neighbor.
Our thoughts are with the family during this hard time. May you find peace in the many memories of her.

a sequel lies beyond…
invisible as music
but positive as sound.

Christa will be loved forever by all she touched
We send our love and condolences to Christa’s family. Through Chuck and Brenda we know that Christa was beautiful, inside and out, and that she dearly loved her family. She fought valiantly to survive but left this world with dignity and peace. We can all use her spirit as a role model.
Our deepest sympathies go to Christa’s family, and especially to Luther. Your commitment to each other will stand as an example to us.
Christa may have looked frail on the outside but she was a fighter. She fought hard and lived strong. We will miss her smile and her spirit dearly.
We all wish we could lessen your pain, but we can’t because none of us loved Christa as you did. But we are here whenever you need us.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family as always peace be with you
Love Dale and Cathy
