Obituary for Christene Rosetti Griffin-Ervin

Christene Rosetti Griffin-Ervin was the youngest child of eighteen born to the union of Peter and Victoria Griffin in Pittsburg, Texas. She accepted Christ at an early age, and was baptized at Zion Hill Baptist Church. She graduated from Valley View High School, and attended one of the nation’s prestigious United Negro Colleges, Jarvis Christian College in Texas. She graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Languages.

Christene married her childhood sweetheart, Charles Ervin, and relocated to Seattle. They united with Mount Zion Baptist Church in 1944 where she served on numerous ministries. She loved helping youth excel. She was an original member of the Junior Matrons. She attended Seattle University, earning her M.S.W. and teaching credentials. She worked as substitute teacher and caseworker then worked at the Post Office until retirement.

Christene Ervin passed on December 6, 2007. She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Deacon Charles W. Ervin, Sr. and daughter, Charlene V. Franklin. She was a positive, kind and highly intelligent woman who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by one sister, Doll McGee; children, Etta Jim Walters, C. Yvonne Ervin Carr; Charles W. Beverly Ervin, Sarah J.E. Dean and Carl W. Penny Ervin; 10 grandchildren, Richele, David, Meko, Billy III, Rita, Monroe III, Chantel, Kia, Chalon and Karlee; 16 great-grandchildren, Shanelle, Patrice, Malia, Jalil, Dashae, Milan, Victoria, Brianna, Rheon, Billy IV, Charles James “CJ”, Maiz, Kobe, George, Jr., and Georgia, and three great-great grandchildren due in 2008; son-in-law Ron Franklin; relatives and friends who will cherish her memory.

Memorial services will be December 14, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Ervin Trust Fund at Mount Zion Baptist Church.
