Clarence "Scottie" Vernon Scott

December 6, 1921 - April 12, 2012

Obituary

Clarence Vernon Scott was born on December 6, 1921 to Neil and Madge Scott in Dalkena, Washington. He was a part of a lively and hard-working family of 7 brothers and 2 sisters. After graduating from high school he enlisted in the Navy in 1939. He served aboard the USS Rombach, the USS Davis and the USS Sampson and received an Honorable Discharge in October of 1945. Just two months later, Scottie married Majora Cryder and they moved to Seattle where he attended the University of Washington. With a degree in electrical engineering, he worked for more than 30 years as an engineer and Program Manager in the Boeing Space and Defense program. When he wasn’t working he and Majora were busy raising a family of 5 children. Together they spent many happy summers camping and fishing.

Scottie enjoyed all sports but one of his favorite activities was coaching his son’s Little League teams. You could always find him cheering for all of his kids at summer swim meets. Besides camping, fishing, golf and gardening, Scottie enjoyed playing bridge and traveling. He explored all over the world from Taiwan and Singapore to France, Italy, Sweden, Germany, Ireland, Mexico and Alaska. He never tired of meeting new people and seeing new places.

After 51 years, his best friend Majora passed away. He wasn’t quite sure what to do with himself until he met Joyce Siverts several years later. She filled the empty place in his heart and they were happily married for 11 years. Together they admired the goldfinches, chickadees and hummingbirds, shared the bounty of their garden and continued to see the world. She has also passed on as has his daughter Melanie.

He will be sorely missed by his children, Kathy Gray (Jim), Keith (Sue), Kevin and David (Deborah) and by his eight grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Ray and OB Scott of Newport Washington, also survive him.

Please join the family at the Memorial Service at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Bonney-Watson Washington Memorial. 16445 International Blvd. in Sea-Tac. A reception will follow. You are invited to bring a photograph with a caption to share or any memorabilia to display at the service. Donations in lieu of flowers should be sent to the Veteran’s Administration.

Dear Scott Family,

First I will explain who I am. My sister Vonnie became a Scott when she married Clarey’s brother Cliff.

so I have known the Scotts for a long time. I am thinking of you at this sad time and I know all the happy memories will always be in your hearts. You are in my prayers.

Love,

Jan Haines

Dear friends,

We are so sorry to hear that CV has passed away. I got to know him in the early 80’ies during our work at Saab with Viking – Sweden’s first satellite. I was Saab’s program manager for Viking at that time. We procured a significant portion of the satellite from Boeing Aerospace, and CV and Majora came to Linkoping. CV supported us with integration of Boeing’s hardware with our own into a complete satellite, and the extensive testing that followed. Not only was CV very competent and experienced – he and Majora were very nice persons, and we all liked them very much. After they went back to the US we continued to communicate by letter and mail. And my wife Gunilla and myself are so glad that we had a chance to see them in Seattle in 1997. They gave us an iris plant from their garden which we brought back and planted successfully. So each summer we have lots of purple iris flowers from their plant, and every time we look at them we think about CV and Majora.

I feel your loss so deeply! Scottie has been a part of our family for so many years (His son David is married to my sister Debbie), so we were blessed and lucky to have spent time with him throughout the years. Scottie was one of the most positive and loving men I have ever known and I know he will be missed! All of my prayers go out to the entire family during this difficult time. Love you all!

I would like to express my deepest sympathy for the loss of your loved one. Death is one of the most difficult things we face in life but may it comfort you to know that others care. I have found great encouragement when reading the beautiful words penned in the Bible at Isaiah 25:8 “He will swallow up death forever, and the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will certainly wipe the tears from all faces.” May this promise bring your family comfort in this difficult time.
