Obituary
Claudia Eland, 77, of Seattle, passed away peacefully in her Seattle home on May 12, 2012.
Claudia was born November 2, 1934 to James and Maude Lang in Seattle. At age 5, the Lang family was relocated to Salt Lake City and that was where Claudia would complete her education. Claudia attended Rowland Hall from Kindergarten to 12th grade and had fond memories of the all girls’ school. After Rowland Hall, Claudia attended University of Utah. There, she joined the ROTC and was an active member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. Claudia met her “BFF” (Best Friend Forever), Gay Messina Jarrett while at the Kappa House and both would eventually live less than 2 blocks away from one another for the rest of Claudia’s life. Claudia moved to Seattle in 1956 to marry Sid Eland and soon had two sons. They resided in Madison Park and she would call the Mad Park area her home for over 56 years. However, Claudia loved to travel. In her travels after her separation, she had the good fortune to befriend and eventually marry a gentleman by the name of Stan Gordon from Orlando, FL. Prior to Stan’s passing, they enjoyed Cruise Ship cruises and seeing a lot of what this great world has to offer. After grieving Stan’s death, Claudia united with Gibbs Lincoln. For 10 years they enjoyed their time together between Seattle and Rancho Mirage, CA. Gibbs had a special love for Claudia and was at her bedside at the time of her passing.
Claudia will be remembered for her contagious smile. A glamorous lady who was kind, gracious as well as extremely generous and loving to all. She was affiliated with the Junior League of Seattle, Helen Taylor Bush Children’s Hospital Guild, Pathfinders of Palm Springs and various Clubs in Seattle and Rancho Mirage. Claudia will be sadly missed by her family, Gibbs and her 100’s of friends who adored her dearly. Claudia is survived by her sons, Sid (Tracy), Jim (Paula), grandchildren Kayla, Bart, Emily, Ian and Molly.
The family wishes to give special thanks to the wonderful care given to Claudia in her final days by the caretakers at Comfort Care of Palm Springs, Fedelta of Seattle and Evergreen Hospice Services.
Wishing you comfort through your loss. Best wishes to the family.
Although we moved from Seattle 43 years ago, I still remember fondly the gracious and lovely Claudia.
Sincerest condolences to the family, from a Kappa sister and Helen Taylor Bush friend …
Life will not be as fun without this wonderful woman in it. I shall miss her every single day for the rest of my life.
The time and memories of our time shared with Claudia will be everlasting. The love and affection she displayed for my Grand Father filled his life with joy and for that I will be forever thankful.
I would like to express my deepest sympathy for the loss of your loved one. Death is one of the most difficult things we face in life but may it comfort you to know that others care. I have found great encouragement when reading the beautiful words penned in the Bible at Isaiah 25:8 “He will swallow up death forever, and the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will certainly wipe the tears from all faces.” May this promise bring your family comfort in this difficult time.
