Obituary
Almost 80 years ago in the Philippines, a star was born who forever changed the lives of many people and modeled for us the value of faith and family.
NOW THE FACTS:
Consuelo Osias born June 7, 1945
Sister of Baltazar and Vicente
Educated in the Philippines
Received her degree in chemistry from Mapua Institute of technology
Recruited by the chair of her department to teach ( BEFORE SHE EVEN GRADUATED)
Married Lucio ( Dick) Abad December 27, 1971
Worked at Boeing and State of Washington as Industrial Hygiene Chemist
Passed away into the arms of God April 19, 2025
NOW THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF CONSUELO ( CONNIE)
In her way “The Connie Way”, Connie dedicated her life to God and enjoyed a special devotion to Mary, The Mother of God.She daily recited the rosary….the entire rosary…all fifteen decades!)
Family was her life. Everything she did was central to her family. She created families all around her…long lasting families.
Connie and Dick created their ” first” family with the births of Amaryllis (1973), Ariel(1976), Allen (1979). As the kids grew older their friends, their classmates, their teachers became ” family”. Connie maintained her childhood friends, her classmate friends, her co- workers friends…They were all family.
Then came the Port Susan Camp family…good food…laughter…intense Mahjong marathons, “non-supervised ” free camp experiences for the young. ( THEY never did share much of those experiences so we can only surmise)
Then came Expansion Part One of the Connie family circle with the marriage of Ariel and Pheng…and welcoming Pheng’s family…the marriage of Allen and Ronnie and the welcoming of Ronnie’s family
Then came the real Expansion Part Two with the births of Aaron…Ente…Isabella…Karasaun…Rayden…Skyler…and Vicente Lucio.
16th Avenue became the Grand Central Station Family of Beacon Hill
Every gathering was a family celebration. Christmas was filled with surprises and laughter with discovering money Connie creatively hid among the gifts…a nephew thought his gift was a can of corn ( but hidden under the label was Christmas $$)….money would be discovered in the corner of blankets…in socks..pockets of pants or shirts….anywhere. it took just as much creativity to find it as it did for Connie to hide it.
If you were brave enough to visit Connie during a Seahawks Game or Mariners Game, like one of her nieces you could easily be bounced off her lap at a touchdown or Still have a ringing in your ears at a homerun.
And do not forget those of us who were in her Income tax family. From January 30th to April 15th Connie turned into a sharp-eyed, master investigator, super sleuth…almost magician….every single penny of income…deduction…assets….interest…was scrutinized, dissected and accounted for….I believe the> IRS was afraid to even question her returns!!
Everyone was family in the most creative fashions and ways
As time wore on Allen and Ariel ( Ronnie and Pheng) could see that Dick and Connie were needing more medical support and assistance. After much discernment, research, prayer and discussion including Connie and Dick, a wonderful opportunity opened up.. they discovered and visited the Elder Care Group Family Home….a perfect fit….a warm, welcoming , culturally diverse, informal, loving and inclusive family home with expert medical care and supervision. . Just like the family circles Connie created she and Dick were now in the embrace of this circle….with kids…dogs…residents..resident families…people coming and going…priest visits and the Sacraments. Another CONNIE circle!
As Connie moved from our arms to the arms of God..she was surrounded by representatives of all her family circles.
That star that was born back in 1945…still shines and twinkles in the heavens showing us faith and family.
