Obituary
Dale A. “Chip” Perala, 47, a beloved friend of many and caring nurse to his patients, passed away recently at his residence in Seattle following an injury resulting from an automobile accident.
Born in Willoughby, Ohio, March 17, 1968, Chip was a graduate of North High School in Eastlake, Ohio and studied nursing at The Ohio State University and Capital University. He was a US Air Force veteran, where he served as a Security Police officer. Chip lived at various military installations in Texas and South Carolina during his enlistment, which included a deployment to Panama. After leaving the military, he called Cleveland; Columbus, Ohio; Seattle; New York and Dallas home. He was a Registered Nurse and cared for patients in Washington State, New York City, Ohio and South Carolina over the years.
Throughout his life Chip enjoyed travel and the outdoors, cruises and had an ongoing love of Seattle and the Pacific Northwest. He also loved the desert and traveled often to Palm Springs, Calif. He was a proud pet parent to cats Maxwell and Boo, and dogs Buster, Jocko and Chester.
Chip is survived by many dear friends across the country, particularly in Washington state, Ohio, South Dakota, South Carolina, Texas and New York City. He is also survived by his long-time partner and former husband Joel Hastings, of Chevy Chase, Md. Although their marriage ended in divorce in 2014, they remained very close and intimately involved in each others lives. Also surviving are cousins and aunts in Seattle, South Dakota and Ohio.
A memorial service will be held in Seattle Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015, at Bonney-Watson Capitol Hill, 1732 Broadway Ave. Friends can call beginning at 2 pm, with the remembrance commencing at 4 pm. Following the remembrance, friends can gather at C.C.Attle’s, 1701 East Olive Way, for a toast in Chip’s memory. It is suggested that memorial donations be made in Chip’s name to Seattle Gay Film Festival’s three dollar bill cinema or to the charity of the donor’s choice. With a heavy heart I think about my former husband and life partner of 15+ years. He was good in so many ways and brought such joy to me for so long. And, I will miss him terribly.
His favorite quote of late was “Don’t cry because it’s over, instead, smile because it happened.”
I have nothing but love for these two gentlemen and they are two of the few I’ve kept in my thoughts over the years after life took us in separate directions.
Your forever in my thoughts Joel and much love to his other family and friends.

A life gone way to soon. Chip and Joel and I shared many holidays together and adventures to Portland, Victoria and Palm Springs always much fun and humor along the way and of course great food and lots of cocktails. So Chip here’s to you make you make God laugh as you always did me.
Chip I’m so sorry that I never got to meet you (my cousin). Just found out that you we’re living in the same state and never got the chance to meet you. My heart goes out to Joel, your family and friends and those that are very close to you. RIP
Goodbye, Chip…be at rest now….no more illness, no more pain, no more drama, etc…just be at peace…and watch over The Old Gang!!!
ALL WE HAVE IS THE ETERNAL MOMENT OF NOW.
