Obituary

Daniel Miller

Dan Miller, 71, unexpectedly passed away July 23rd, 2014.  Dan was born in Georgia and graduated from R.A. Long High School in Longview, Washington.  Dan was a member of the IBEW 77, National Rifle Association and The Puyallup Eagles.  Upon graduation from high school Dan enlisted in the U.S. Air Force.  After the military Dan acquired his Journeyman’s License and enjoyed a long career as a lineman.  He worked for The Town of Steilacoom, Parkland Light, Puget Power/Puget Sound Energy and Potelco.  With many years in the field Dan made friends wherever he went.  When he wasn’t working he enjoyed his family, friends, reading, hunting, The Mariners, gardening, golf and tinkering with projects.  He was always up for a cup of coffee, golf and happy hour!

Dan had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to tell jokes and have a good time.  He was a laid back guy who was happiest around his garden, grandkids, family and friends. While his unexpected passing leaves a heaviness in our hearts; the papa, dad, brother, uncle and friend we knew has left many wonderful and cherished memories.  This is goodbye for now–until we meet again.  You are greatly missed.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Dovie Miller, brothers O’Neal Miller and Nolan Miller and sister Jean Rothfus.  Dan is survived by his daughter Angie (John) Skibiel and son Jeff (Neil) Miller.  Grandkids Madison, Danielle, Olivia and Caden Skibiel.  Brothers Cleatus Miller of Kelso, WA; Virgil (Edith) Miller of Clatskanie, OR; Wayne (Vicky) Miller of Rochester, WA.  Sisters Iantha Collins and Deborah (Gary) Doane of Longview, WA; Carrolene (Allen) Reid and Majoria “Jo” (Gale) Orloske of Rochester, WA.  As well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A military internment will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery on Friday, September 12, 2014 at 11:30am.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 3:00pm at The Valley View Church of God, 1435–33rd Avenue, Longview, Washington.

Please visit www.Bonney-Watson.com to sign the guestbook, leave stories, messages and post pictures.  Remembrances can be made in his name to the Wounded Warrior Project (WoundedWarriorProject.org) or The American Cancer Society (cancer.org/donate)  We know Dan would want everyone who crossed his path to celebrate his memory and share a cup of coffee, play a round of golf or raise a toast (OR ALL THREE) in his honor.

My memories of Dan are of a very kind man. We were in school together and I thought he was so handsome. I didn’t know him well but he was one of those guys you just liked and respected.

I MET DAN IN THE MILITARY, AND WE WERE IN THE SAME BARRACKS TOGETHER. DAN AND A FEW OTHER GUYS WERE MY BUDDIES. I MET A GIRL HERE IN TACOMA, AND GOT MARRIED, AND DAN MARRIED ONE OF HER GIRLFRIENDS. DAN AND I HAD ALWAYS BUMPED INTO ONE ANOTHER THROUGH THE YEARS, AND HAD ALWAYS ENJOYED OUR FRIENDSHIP, AND OUR SERVICE DAYS TOGETHER. DAN ONLY LIVED ABOUT 10 BLOCKS FROM MY HOUSE, AND WE OCCASIONALY GOT TOGETHER.

DAN WAS A GREAT PERSON AND FRIEND, AND I AM SO SORRY HE IS GONE. HE WILL BE MISSED BY MANY.

I’ve known Dan for a long time, we had a lot of great times together. I always enjoyed his good sense of humor. I had worked with Dan off and on through out the years and we had done a lot things together. I will miss our lunch and coffee meetings we’ve had since retirement. Dan was a real good friend, always there to give a hand or just needed to talk.

You’ll be missed.

We will always remember Dan fondly for his great sense of humor; bringing a smile and laughter to our faces. Know he loved to garden and was very successful at it. We’re sorry for your loss. Please accept our deepest sympathy.
