Darleen I. Smith

Obituary

Darleen I. Smith, age 68, passed peacefully on October 26, 2006. Darleen was born in Aberdeen, South Dakota and she has lived in Washington for many years. Darleen was caring and independent lady. She was always giving, laughing, and smiling. She learned to make the best out of life. She passed this trait on to her daughter and anyone else who had the privilege of knowing her.

With her first marriage to Everett Smith she was blessed with a daughter, Patricia. While with her second marriage to Leonard Clark, she gained a brother, Raymond, and a sister Phyllis whom she loved as true family. Darleen was a beloved mother, sister, and friend. She will be missed greatly by all that knew her.

She is survived by her daughter, Patty husband Eric, her sisters: Carol Husband Duane and family, Phyllis daugher Camille, Judy, and her brothers: Raymond, Ron, Skip, Brian, and Bob.

Here is her favorite poem to comfort and to remind us to believe.

Footprints in the Sand

One night a man had a dream.

He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord. Scenes from his life flashed across the sky and he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand, one belonging to him and the other to the Lord. When the last scene of his life had flashed before him, he recalled that at the lowest and saddest times of his life there was only one set of footprints. Dismayed, he asked, ”Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you, you’d walk with me all the way. I dont understand why, when I needed you most, you would leave me.” The Lord replied, ”My precious child. I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering when you saw only one set of footprints… That was when I carried you.”

In the short time I have known Darleen, I have seen nothing, but laughter and caring from her. Somehow I found her to be strong and independent, though she was stuck in a wheelchair and needed us for medicine and groceries. We all know she can be stubborn…but it never seemed to be against anyone, she would just make up her mind and that was it. I will miss her greatly, and I promise to take care of her only daughter Patty. – Peace be with you. Eric
