Obituary

David (Dave) George Gillette, 56, passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, July 17th at St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way, WA.

Dave was born on March 18, 1956 in Conrad, MT, the son of George and Frances Gillette.  Dave spent his early years in Valier, Missoula and Plains.  He graduated from Plains High School in 1974.  He was employed at the Diehl lumber mill in Plains until 1977 when he decided to travel the world to work in the petroleum industry.  He had many adventures to places such as Singapore, Brunei, and the Philippines. He moved his family to Frenchtown in September 1990. He then worked in the middle east and finally settled in Jakarta, Indonesia.  He returned to the United States to be with his family on July 6th, 2012.

Dave enjoyed watching all of his children play sports and loved to watch baseball.  He loved making breakfast for his children, as well as going on long drives with them.  He had a comedic personality and entertained many.  He loved to sing and dance and he always had a great time visiting and laughing with his family and friends from all over the world.

Dave is survived by his brother Bob, of Missoula and his sister Barbara of Frenchtown, his children Carlo of Killeen, TX; Mark, JR, Mary and Dulcie of Lynnwood, WA: his grandchildren JP, Khila, Cloud, Ocean, Sky, Aidan, AJ, JayR, Ava and Mila, many nieces and nephews and countless friends all over the world.  He was preceded in death by his parents George and Frances, and his brothers Gary, Dean, Keith, and Ken and nephews Kent, Dean, and Neil.

Dave will be laid to rest with his family at the Plains Cemetery on July 21st at 1PM where a graveside service will be held.  To celebrate Dave’s life, there will be a gathering at the home of Buck and Lisa Larson, 204 W. Stanton Street in Plains.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.

Dave posted this on his Facebook page in February:

Life is Too Short,
Break The Rules,
Forgive Quickly,
Kiss Slowly, Love Truly,
Laugh Uncontrollably,
And Never Regret Anything that made you Smile
Life May not be the Party
We Hope for,
But while We’re Here, We Should Dance.

Dave will be greatly missed by his family and friends, but we are comforted knowing that he is forever out of pain, and that we will one day see him again.

Rest in peace Dave. I love you so much and I miss you terribly. You will be in good hands in Heaven with Mom and Dad and the boys, and I hope they don’t pick on you too much. I will keep you in my heart forever.

I love you.

Dave you were only 16 when I met you the first time. I met you in Plains, Montana when Ken brought me to the States for the very first time and you made me feel so welcome in the Gillette family.

In January 1978 you moved to Singapore the same time as Ken and I. In Singapore you lived with your brother Bob and Chris and later you lived with your brother Ken and I. You were always a good and fun uncle to our three boys, Michael, Neil and Kent.

You moved to the Philippines and soon you had a wonderful family of your own and five beautiful children, Carlo, Mary, Dulcie, Mark and Jr.

Three years ago Ken and I, Michael, Gunilla and Adam saw you in Singapore, where we had some very enjoyable and fun days together.

Dave you have always been a good friend and a kind brother-in-law and you will be missed so very much.

I know that you are now in a better place together with your parents and your brothers, Ken and Keith and Gary and Dean and your nephews Kent and Neil and Dean.

Thank you foreverything and for being in our lives.

Your sister-in-law, Lise

To the Gillette family, please accept our condolences on your loss. Mark, you and Nick played many a baseball game together, and the families always enjoyed watching them together. Keep the good memories close, replay them, and enjoy them. You are in our thoughts and prayers,

I run a moving company in Jakarta and came across a box in the depths of our warehouse that was covered in dust from the 1990’s. There were some wedding photos in the box and when I sent them around to some of the old schoolers, someone suggested that it may be Dave Gillette. I really don’t know but if anyone reads this and wants to take a peak please email me at bill.lloyd@asiantigers-indonesia.com. My condolences to Dave’s family and I would be happy to get the pics to you if indeed it is confirmed that they are indeed he.
