Obituary
David was born November 15, 1928, in Great Falls, Montana. He was the middle child of Iris Mildred (Earl) Sutherland and Robert Vernon Sutherland. The Sutherlands moved to Idaho, where David spent his childhood, then to Auburn in 1940. David graduated from Auburn High School in 1946, and then attended Washington State University where he earned a master’s degree in pharmacology. He worked at Evans Drug Store in Auburn, then Hi Ho Pharmacy in Puyallup, before retiring from the Rainier School in 2001. He was honored by the State Pharmacy Board for being a practicing pharmacist in the State of Washington for 50 years. He enjoyed gardening, sharing his beautiful dahlias and roses with friends and neighbors. He and Verna, his wife of 27 years, enjoyed traveling and spending time on the Washington coast. David was preceded in death by his sister, Sara Jean (Sutherland) Carrier. He is survived by his wife Verna (Brody, Buchonis) Sutherland, sister Nancy (Jim) Waterman, daughters Gwen (Thad) Streeter, Stephanie (John) Holland; step-children Rick (Sarah) Buchonis, Tammy (Jim) Walz, Diana (Jim) Wandler, his beloved granddaughter Carlie (Derek) Bell, numerous nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and his dog, Peppi. Those who knew David describe him as a gentle and kind person. He was a devoted family man and husband who always put others first. His sense of humor and intellect will be missed by all.
