Obituary

David was born on May 31, 1952, in Lebanon, OR. He grew up near Crabtree and graduated high school as salutatorian. After attending school at Oregon State University, he moved to the Portland, OR area and worked for Tektronix. He married Lucille Rempel, with whom he adopted his first child: Elizabeth (Liz). After Lucy’s death, David married Helen Slack. He had two more children with Helen: Daniel and Cynthia. David and his family lived in Massachusetts from 1997 to 2006, when they moved back to the Portland area. David and Helen moved to Auburn, WA in 2021, where they lived with Cynthia’s family. After a struggle with prostate cancer, David died peacefully at MultiCare Auburn Medical Center on January 27, 2024.

In addition to David’s career in electrical engineering, he was passionately interested in science and classical music. For most of his adult life, he sang with highly competent amateur choirs, singing great choral works such as Handel’s Messiah and Mendelssohn’s Elijah. His shelves are filled with classical CD’s and books on physics, biology, and chemistry. He was also an avid photographer and hiker.

Helen, my condolences to you and your beautiful family for David’s passing, may he rest in peace. Reading his obituary confirms my great impression of him as a great human being during my interactions with you both throughout the years
