Obituary

David peacefully slipped away in his home surrounded by family.  He was a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend.  David’s greatest legacy was his family.   He considered himself a very wealthy man.  David’s family will never forget the advice he gave to “always keep trying, never give up and persevere.”

David was born in Calgary, Alberta Canada and lived there until his family immigrated to Seattle in 1922.  He  graduated  from Garfield

High School in 1937.  His first job was at Safeway where he became a licensed butcher; he later became a shop fitter at Todd’s Shipyard.  In March of 1942, he married the love of his life, Lorena Rosellini.  In 1944, he joined the Navy to serve during WW II and returned where he began his career at Darigold in 1946.

Eventually as David and Rena raised a family, he built their home in Ballard where he continued to reside.  David had a great sense of humor, an infectious laugh and loved music, often breaking into song throughout the day.  He enjoyed camping, clamming, crossword puzzles, the Sonics and his favorite spot on beach 4 at Kalaoch.  His greatest pleasure involved family gatherings and celebrations.

David embraced a strong work ethic and eventually retired from Darigold  in  1982 after  36 years  of service.   He  was  active  in the

Cub/Boy Scouts as a Troop Master and was always willing to help

others particularly the elderly neighbors.  He maintained a lifelong

close bond with his siblings and they shared many wonderful adventures. David is survived by Lorena, his wife of nearly 70 years,

his children Gloria (Dick) Selby, Judy Hovey, Diane (Bill) Fueston, Lillian (Doug) Gimmestad, Linda (Bill) Chapple, Mike (Deborah), Teresa (Walt) Kostecka, Scott (Venus), Jeff (Terry), 19 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, his beloved sisters Jean Paulson and  Mary Benedetti and numerous nephews and nieces.

David was predeceased by his parents David and Mary, brothers Bob and Alex, sister Anne Dodds, sister-in-laws Anne and Bernice

Williamson, brother-in-laws Frank Benedetti, Lester Paulson and John Dodds and son-in-law Ray Hovey.

At David’s request, a party will be held at a later date.  The family expresses gratitude to Swedish Hospice and remembrances may be sent to these services.
