Obituary
Dennis (“Denny”) W. Gallegos of Tacoma, passed away at home, with his mother and uncle at his side on November 29, 2014. He was 47 years old. He was a thoughtful, intelligent, kind, and generous man, known for his sense of humor, his luminous smile, his “bear hugs”, his amazing way of telling detailed stories, and his enthusiasm for his hobbies, which included skeet and trap shooting, traveling, gaming, hiking, and reading. Denny loved his family, loved nature, and he loved knowledge.
Dennis was born in Albuquerque, NM, on August 19, 1967 to Linda Gallegos, and Dennis Cox Sr. He grew up in Kansas City, MO, and Ft. Lauderdale, FL before moving to Seattle, where he graduated from O’Dea High School in 1986.
Dennis attended college and devoted his life’s work to the criminal justice system. He was employed at Second Chance, Seattle and then at Washington Corrections Center for Women, Gig Harbor. His last employment was as a corrections officer at the Special Commitment Center McNeil Island where he worked for 16 years. Denny was well respected and loved by his co-workers.
He is survived by his loving and caring mother, Linda Gallegos; Uncle’s Sidney and Arthur (Francis) Gallegos. Cousin’s: Anna, Karen, Celestino, Erica, Gabriel, Neita, Anthony, Jeffery and their families. Friends and his co-workers who unselfishly loved and supported him.
He was eternally grateful for all the medical staff that cared for him.

My prayers and sympathy for the family. I’m so proud of the man Denny was and his love for his family. He will be deeply missed by all.
Far too young for an individual with so much to give and contribute. Our prayers are with the family at this very difficult time.
My deepest sympathy to you linda. Dennis always had a wonderful smile and I know how much you loved your son. Your in my thoughts and may you find peace.

Dennis I will miss your company and companionship, you were a true friend.
If I could speak to God I would tell him that you were a good man,…. the kind of man who was true to his word, kind to others and caring for all…..the kind of man a person would want for a brother-in-law or a next door neighbor…… I will pray for you and hope that God hears my message.
Over the years we shot a lot of clay targets together and I will never be able to set foot on a skeet field again without thinking of you and your love of the game.

Dennis will be greatly missed. His big smile, infectious laugh, and zest for life.
One of my favorite memories of Dennis. Tiger Mountain – we did all 3 peaks, 15 miles.
My thoughts go out to the friends and family of Dennis. I’d like to leave a scripture in the bible book of John that I hope will comfort you. John 5:28&29 “Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, and those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment.”
