Diane Berryman Bain
Diane Patricia Berryman Bain passed away on November 13, 2017, in Seattle at the age of 85. She was born on December 5, 1931, in Texarkana, Texas, the daughter of Agnes Gentry and Joseph Berryman. In her youth, Diane lived in many places including Texarkana, Fort Stockton, Rochester, Minnesota, Oak Park, Illinois, and Elkhart, Indiana. She attended Roycemore High School in Evanston, Illinois and graduated from Rochester High School in 1950. She went on to be the first woman to major in TV and Radio at the University of Minnesota School of Journalism and Mass Communication, and later hosted a television talk show for KROC-TV in Rochester, Minnesota.
In 1956, she married Dr. Robert C. Bain in Rochester and headed west to Seattle, stopping in Colorado Springs for their Honeymoon and at the Gold Bar Room in Cripple Creek to hear Max Morath along the way.
Diane was an active volunteer throughout her life, serving for many years on the board of The McKinley House, a home for foster children, as well as with KING Call for Action, The Wise Penny, and the Junior League. She also avidly recycled cans, bottles, and paper well before her peers and enjoyed spending time sewing and knitting many custom creations for herself and her family. As a dedicated mother of three children, she pushed their independence.
Diane was predeceased by her parents, her stepfather Willard G. Kruger, and her beloved brother Bobby Joe who died in 1936 in Fort Stockton at the age of 12. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Robert C. Bain of Seattle, Washington, and their three children: Robert Clark Bain, Jr. (Tina) of Edina, Minnesota, Brodie Bain (Todd Lee) of Seattle, Washington and Dana Bain (Rick Davis) of Los Angeles, along with eight grandchildren.
A memorial to honor Diane’s life will be held at 2:00 November 30 at Mirabella Seattle, 116 Fairview Avenue North.
