Obituary
DIANE B. LUKE
Diane B. Luke died peacefully on May 19 in Seattle with family by her side. Born September 2, 1930 in Kaslo, BC, Canada.
Diane Chow grew up among many siblings while living in Vancouver, BC. Diane married Russell Luke in 1957, and moved to Seattle. The couple lived on Beacon Hill, and moved when Diane & Russell built a large home for their growing family. The family cherished vacations such as road trips all packed in a single car, fishing, razor clamming, and visiting many relatives in Canada. Diane loved to garden and care for her large yard.
Widowed suddenly in 1974, Diane raised 5 children on her own, with perseverance and love. When her children became adults, Diane was able to travel the country and world with family and friends on cruises and tours. She was proud to see her children go to college, marry, and give her 7 grandchildren to indulge. Our family was blessed because she was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Diane is survived by sons Barry (Teresa) of Unionville, CT and Stan (Young-Jae Kim) of Stow, MA; daughters Linda (John Kook) and Donna (Keith Peterson), both of Seattle, and 7 grandchildren: Isaac and Christie Luke; Robert, Elaina, and Russell Kook; Katy and Lauren Peterson. She is survived by siblings Tommy, May, Doug and Henry; sisters-in-laws Anne and Mabel; and many nieces and nephews. Diane was preceded in death by her husband, Russell (1974); her son, Roger (1987); and her siblings, Helen, Dick, Irene and Mona.
We appreciate the friendships and care Diane received from Merrill Gardens-Northgate Plaza for the last 6 months.
Special thanks to Providence Hospice for providing compassionate care.
The family will be holding a private family memorial at Bonney-Watson in Seattle.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to either WingLukeAsianMuseum or Chinese Baptist Church of Seattle, WA or to a charity of your choice.
I feel so sad . . . my heart aches . . . my eyes are watering so much to the point of tears . . . when I think of the loss of my Mom – not seeing her anymore . . .
My Mom always cared so much about ALL her *children*, including Roger, & our Mom also dearly loved our spouses, too! Mom wanted the BEST & MOST for all of us children (myself, Roger, Stan, Linda, & Donna) . . . I still remember how much Mom *hurt* when Dad (Russell) passed away, so unexpectedly & abruptly, in the middle of the night . . . Hard to imagine what went thru Mom’s mind at that time facing the prospects of raising FIVE children alone . . . However, I know that God was there protecting & guiding our family – every step of the way . . .
Thankful to God that my Mom lived a good & FULL life – with love & hope, struggles & accomplishments, tears & joys, and always with dear family & friends near her — Mom was always surrounded by my sisters, dear friends, & loving relatives. And after we, the kids left home – Mom enjoyed an abundance of time to travel/vacation with Uncle Steve & Auntie Ping, Mrs Eng & others . . .
I hope & pray my Mom found peace & perhaps found God before her last breath. And maybe Mom is reunited again with Dad – to be doing things together again ( I can still remember them going out fishing at night at Lake Sammamish! ) . . . We are proud of Mom (& Dad) who raised us (the children) up rightly & properly – to be responsible, caring, & loving.
Mom, God’s Peace to you . . . your *work* is done on this earth . . . We love you.
God’s LOVE & PEACE to all,
Always,
— your son, Barry, & Teresa
Barry, Teresa and the Luke family,
We are so sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. Your mom was an amazing and wonderful woman. Our hearts and prayers are with all of you during this difficult time. May the memories of your mom help you find comfort. With our deepest sympathy and love,
June, Rudy, Jenna, Christopher & Alex.
On behalf of the entire Falsetto family, I would like to extend our deepest condolences on the passing of Mrs. Luke, as I called her.
Growing up right next door meant that our families shared so much of each other’s lives. I clearly remember so many meals Mrs Luke invited me to share with your family. To this day I remember how much I loved the way she cooked broccoli. And the garden she maintained that supplied most of your fruit and vegetable was awe inspiring. We all grew up together, right next door, and I am so grateful for the many experiences and memories we share from that time.
We, Rose, Anita, Paul, Lizanne and myself send you all our love and support, knowing Mrs Luke’s legacy lives on in her children and her grandchildren.
