Diane Louise MATZ

Passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Tucson, AZ on March 11, 2006. Diane was born June 25, 1953 in Redmond, OR. She is survived by her parents, Harold and Wilma Matz of Des Moines, WA. brother Duane and wife Sandy of Bothell, WA and sister Laura Matz and her husband Trevor Peterson of Normandy Park, WA. She spent her childhood and young adult years in Normandy Park, graduating from schools in the Highline School District, and Highline Community College. She recently completed the requirements for the advance certificate as a Paralegal, with a 4.0 GPA. She had also qualified for a R.E. license. Diane worked for Alaska Airlines as a customer Service Agent and trainer for 28 years. While employed by Alaska she served as President of Local lodge 2202 IAM, and was a strong union advocate. In Tucson she was a member of the honor society of Pima College, she was also Secretary of the board of San Clemente Historical Association, and highly instrumental in obtaining Historical status for the area in which she lived. Diane was adventurous, a true individual, and highly passionate about the many loves and interests which included among other things; films, music, animals, reading, traveling, and especially antiquing. She strongly believed in social justice and tried to make the world a better place. Although she was raised in the Seattle area, her true home was always Tucson. Diane will be forever missed by her family and friends. A celebration of her life was held in her beloved Tucson on March 18, 2006 and a memorial by the local union 2202, on March 24, 2006 at the SeaTac hall. I will miss Diane’s laughter and energetic smile. She was a joy to work with and email – loved the long stories …. she was quite a storyteller – always with humor and purpose… Her family must be very special to have helped her become the woman I knew.
