Obituary

Don R. HARBERG

At age 74, our beloved Dad and Grandfather went home to be with God on the evening of September 3rd. After a long fight with Parkinson’s’ disease he passed away with family by his side. Don was born Oct. 3rd 1931 in Portland, Oregon and moved to the Seattle neighborhood of Magnolia with his parents when he was a boy. After graduating from Queen Anne high school he enlisted in the U.S Army Feb. 11 1952 and served as a crypto security specialist and staff sergeant during the Korean War. After coming home Don attended and graduated from the University of Washington in 1958 with a bachelors degree in business administration. From there he started his career in the insurance business with DK Macdonald which later became the Marsh & McLennan Co. Don married Betty McCann in 1959 and ended up moving to the Burien area. His career at Marsh lasted until 1993 when he retired as a MMC Vice president. Don very much enjoyed going to air shows at Boeing and Paine fields and while not being a pilot he had a great interest in aircraft and knew the details about every one, especially the old WWII fighters. Dons’ greatest love though was indeed Husky football as he took his kids every Saturday to all the home games. He was a season ticket holder and Tyee member for many years. He is survived by his 3 sons Mike, Jim Carol, And Rich Teresa and 3 grandsons Tommy, Justin, and Aaron. He will be greatly missed, as we all loved him very much. In accordance with his wishes a private service will be held Sept. 7 at Washington Memorial in SeaTac. Please sign the online memorial guestbook at www.bonneywatson.com.
