Obituary
Donald A. Jaenicke
Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at home on March 2, 2011, at the age of 81. Don was born in Clayton, MO and graduated from Branson High School. He moved to Tacoma, WA in 1948, and graduated from the College of Puget Sound now UPS in 1952. He graduated from Naval Officer’s School, and was sent to Japan as a Press Officer on the Far East Command. Don married Lois Wasmund in Tokyo, Japan. He was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant in 1955.
In 1956 Don joined the Douglas Fir Plywood Association now APA in Tacoma, WA, as a Publicity Writer. In 1965 he left to work for Weyerhaeuser as a Public Affairs/Marketing Specialist. In 1974, he was named Senior VP and New Business Director at Cole & Weber Advertising. Don started his own PR Agency, Jaenicke Marketing Works, in 1989 and continued to serve his clients through February of this year.
Don is survived by his wife of 30 years, Nancy Jaenicke, former wife Lois Jaenicke, and children: David Alyce Jaenicke, Lynn Richard Near, Roger Mary Jaenicke, Sara Rae Jaenicke, Joy Clint King, Mike Jackie Boulware, and thirteen grandchildren. Their lives have been forever touched by his caring, sense of humor, and support throughout the years. He was preceded in death by his brother, Paul. Family was always his top priority, and he taught us all to celebrate life. Don would like to remind us that, ‘All the good the past hath had, remains to make our own time glad’, a favorite quote by John Greenleaf Whittier.

Dear Jaenicke Family,
I was so sad when I read of Don’s passing. We worked together many moons ago at Cole & Weber in the Bay Area. Don gave me my first opportunity in print production. I’ll never forget our conversation about me “making the big move”. He was always so supportive, caring and concerned about others. The twinkle in his eye and sense of humor was unmatched in anyone I’ve ever run across in our business. I’m sure he will be deeply missed by his family and close friends. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Nancy & Family, we send you our condolences at this sad time of Don’s passing. It was such a joy working with him in Wood Products Marketing at Weyerhaeuser. Special memories are the twinkle in his eye, how much he loved his family, our little joke that he was my agent, his creative ideas, and the fact that he was a first-class guy. What a blessing that we got to visit so recently. Our love to you all.

Dear Nancy and family,
It was with deep sorrow that I learned of Don’s passage, and my sympathy is with you. I arrived at Weyerhaeuser the year following his joining DFPA, and our paths frequently crossed when he shifted to the W.Co “family”. I greatly appreciated the help he provided me in dealing with public affairs issues. He was always a warm individual and I came to think of him as a friend with excellent skills. I trust your devoted memories of him will help you through this difficult time. With warm regards to you all.
Neil Wissing
You are in our thoughts and prayers. Love, Gene and Mary Nell
