Obituary
Doris Louie was born May 13, 1928 to May Chinn and Yee Loo in Seattle. She was the third of five children. The family moved to China so the children could become proficient in speaking Chinese. Doris was there from age four through eleven. In 1946, she graduated from Garfield High School.
Doris worked at I. Magnin until age 21, when she married the love of her life, Joseph Louie on November 20, 1949. They welcomed son, Christopher Dean on August 10, 1950, and daughter, Deborah Ann on December 3, 1958. Her only grandson, Joseph Michael Louie was born on September 10, 1982 and forever remains the light of her life.
In the early 1960s, Doris began working at Wah Kue Café in Burien, where her special way with, and compassion for patrons nurtured a lifelong bond. They became her second family, from one generation to the next.
She and Joe loved to travel and went to Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, as well as to New York, Hawaii, Las Vegas, and Reno. She delighted in playing mah-jong with her friends, going to local casinos, and crocheting. Cooking for family and friends was a special pastime and she was very well known for her fruitcake and dim sum.

Dear “Susie,” how you will be missed by your old friends from Wah Kue days. You were always smilingly ready to hold one or another of our kids…and later, one or another of our grandkids…so we could enjoy our dinner. And, on special outings together we enjoyed sharing with you that pizza you so loved. We feel like such privileged folks to have known you.
Dear Christopher,
We know its a hard that you just lost your mother. We just wanted to let you know, that we will always be there for you when time gets tough. Just remember that your mother at rest peacefully and will always look out for you and your family.
Dear Chris & Debbie,
Your mother was a very dear friend to both of my parents, and she will be missed very much. May you remember all the happy times that she brought into your lives.
Auntie Doris was such a character, she made everyone laugh! She was the landlord to many of my friends at the duplex where we hung out during college. Her company was enjoyed at all of our garage sales.
All her customers were her friends at Wah Kue, where she was known as “Susie.” After she retired from the restaurant, ever week, even until now…. someone would ask,”Where’s Susie?”
She always sat at table 23…. eating dinner. I’ll always will remember her when I walk by that table. She will be truly missed.
Many Prayers,
Barb Wong
Thank you Auntie Doris for always caring about me. Your laugh and smile are memories I will cherish as well as the many conversations we’ve had over the years. I will never forget the kindness that you’ve shown me.
I will miss you dearly,
Sandy
Aunty Doris. Her laugh, sense of humor and always cheerful and upbeat self were intoxicating and invigorating. I worked many long hours with her at Wah-Kue Cafe. With her around, who needed vitamins? As with me, I am sure she was the delight of many friends and customers. And now she will be God’s delight. Till I see you again Aunty Doris.
