Obituary

Dorothy C. BRAID

Born on July 27, 1933 in Denver, CO. Changed her cosmic address on January 4, 2005 in Burien. Dorothy moved to Seattle, WA in 1965. She will be remembered for her love and support of family and friends, and her wonderful sense of humor. She was married to Donald for over 50 years. When asked about it she would say it never felt like that long and that time flies when you are having a good time. Mom enjoyed traveling with Donald and the family, experimenting with new recipes, and trying new restaurants and exotic foods. She loved books, cultivating her orchids, and playing bridge with her friends in Shorewood. Dorothy attended the First Presbyterian Church of Kent. Beloved wife of Donald; mother of Kevin Kate, Bruce, Kate Rob and Julie; aunt of Patricia and great aunt of Jeff. Preceded in death by her brother Charles Cowan and their beloved mother Genevieve. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, January 9, 2005 at Bonney-Watson Parker Chapel, 900 SW 146th Street, Burien. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to P.A.W.S, American Heart Association, or World Vision.

When I lived in Seattle, thousands of miles away from my own mom, Mrs. Braid filled a great void for me. She was fun to be with and I felt like a member of the family. Julie is one of my best friends in the world and my love goes out to her and the entire Braid family.

Big hugs and kisses,

Amy

Though I didn’t know her well, I remember her as a gracious, kind neighbor who was willing to help out when I needed help with a neighborhood project. I’ll always think of her when my rhodie tree blooms because she loved it too. Condolences to the family. We miss your presence in Shorewood.

I first met Dorothy over the bridge table shortly after the Braids moved from New Mexico. Not only was she a good bridge player, she was a good friend, a good cook, and good mother. The world around her was of interest and she viewed life with common sense and humor. I will miss being able to pick up the phone for a Dorothy conversation. Now I will have to communicate with a best friend in another way.

Some of my best memories as a kid were when my mom would take us over to the Braids. Mrs. Braid always made sure we had something fun to do to keep us occupied or to keep us out of trouble!.

Then when I visited later with my own children she brought out all the old toys for them to play with making sure they too had fun. Dorthy was always so thoughtful and kind.

We will all miss her.

Love,

Polly
