I worked with Dorothy many years ago at Virginia Mason.

Dorothy was the kindest, most hard working nurse anyone

could imagine. The patients loved her. She made the work of

the staff easier. Her life lived was a model for all.

I will pray for all of you who are suffering her loss today.

I was saddened to hear about your passing. You were a wonderful neighbor. When I heard from my mother about your health taking a turn for the worse, I said I would come visit you, but I never did. For that, I will always regret. I want to say thank you for all the talks we had. The advice you gave when I was a teenager and young adult. I will miss seeing you out in the garden as I drive by and you wave. You will be truly missed Miss Dorothy.

In the short time I was able to spend with Ms. Mitchell she made a huge impact on me. She had so much courage, strength and kindness and loved her family dearly. Now when I think of Ms. Mitchell I think of Revelation 21:4 – And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.

Yours truly,

May the precious memories of Mrs. Mitchell give family members and friends comfort and peace, for she is at rest—she is at peace. I will always remember her fondly—remember her teasing me and making me laugh…I will remember and cherish the joy she brought to so many!

Love and peace,

Dear Dorothy I begin missing you when I could no longer drive to come see you by myself. I remember the two of us cooking dinner together which I enjoyed so much that I counted on doing it again. Just want you to know that I will miss you, but know you are in the Lord’s arms. Rest in peace.

Dorothy,

You will be miss very much. You were a wonderful “mother-in-law” who was like a mother to me. I can hear God saying, “Dorothy, you have performed my work well. It’s time to come home and rest”. In the scripture below, God says “There is a time for Everything”.

Love

Your Son-in-Law

Ecclesiastes 3:1-15, A Time for Everything

“There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven; A time to give birth, and a time to die; A time to plant, and a time to uproot what is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; A time to tear down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; A time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to throw stones, and a time to gather stones; A time to embrace, and a time to shun embracing; A time to search, and a time to give up as lost; A time to keep, and a time to throw away; A time to tear apart, and a time to sew together; A time to be silent, and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; A time for war, and a time for peace; He has made everything appropriate in its time.

I truly love Dorothy Mitchell. She and my parents, Roosevelt Lathan, Sr. & Pearline Butler-Lathan grew up together. After Pearline Lathan passed, Dorothy was my earth mother. Mrs. Mitchell shared wonderful stories from when they were all young in Washington & in the south. Mrs. Mitchell had a great memory-that was a blessing to me. Mrs. Mitchell & my beloved mother, Pearline, were great friends until the end. I cherish Dorothy Mitchell’s memory. I cherish the great visits we had. I wish for just one more visit. Mrs. Mitchell was kind, a great keeper of confidences, wise, smart, encouraging, full of great advise, cheerful in spite of everything, and a great listener. I never wanted to leave – she made me feel so comfortable and so special. I always told Ms. Dorothy that I would be back to see her as soon as I could. I would also call when I could not get to her home in person. She will be sorely missed by me and by my brother Roosevelt, Jr. Our fond memories of Ms. Dorothy will never be forgotten. She was a very special woman. It was an honor to know her and to be in her presence.
