Obituary

Dorothy Louise Bull Johnstone passed away Friday, August 25, in Federal Way, Washington at the age of 94. Dorothy was the daughter of Charles and Mabel Bull of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and the widow of Edward Ted N. Johnstone. They were previously from La Crescenta, California and Federal Way, Washington. She is survived by a son, Todd Johnstone of Federal Way, and a grandson Steven. Also, two sisters, Mildred Brunner of Middletown, PA and Evelyn DeWitt of Lancaster, California. In addition surviving are three nieces, Marjorie Forster of Camp Hill, PA , Linda Stoe of Middletown, PA and Kathy DeWitt of Lancaster, California. and a nephew Thomas Brunner of Franklin, Mass.

Dorothy graduated from John Harris High School 1931 and Kutztown State Teachers College in 1934 where she studied English and Art. Dorothy was known for her oil paintings and gave oil painting classes many places including for a number of years at the Casita del Campo Restaurant on Hyperion in Hollywood Calif. She had several exhibits of her paintings at Descanso Gardens in La Canada Ca, and local banks and theaters. She worked in photographic studios or close to photography all her life both in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and in California.

She and her husband had interests in photography, camping and the outdoors. Her early interests included Art, Photography, and Ceramics. After retirement they produced stained glass windows and Dorothy expanded her art interests. Dorothy will be remembered as a gracious hostess to relatives, a great teacher of oil painting to her students, and her love of life and the outdoors are captured in the beautiful colors of trees, flowers, and mountains that she incorporated into her paintings.

A memorial service will be held at 2pm September 7, 2006 at the Bonney-Watson Federal Way Funeral Home located at 1535 SW Dash Point Road Federal Way, WA, with Pastor Bud Robinson officiating. In lieu of flowers Memorial contributions can be made to Alzheimer’s Research.

Dot, was one of the most amazing women i have ever met she had a wit beyond description…..she was very much loved and no one could resist her just sitting down and listening to her talk about her life….watch people and nature with her as she made the funniest remarks …. she made me look forward to working at the woodmark daily she was the sun on a cloudy day…

i will miss you Dot and to your family i wish them all the blessings in life and i’m glad to have been a part of Dot’s life
