DOROTHY “DOTTIE” MARVEL SINGER COMBS
1918 – 2006
Dorothy Combs passed away August 26 2006 in Olympia WA at the age of 88. She was born Dorothy Marvel Singer on July 10 1918 in Chicago IL to Edward Dwight Singer and Marvel Gladys Layton. She was the great-granddaughter of Horace Meach Singer a pioneer of the Illinois & Michigan Canal in Lockport IL, great-grandniece of Edgar Collins Singer of the CSS Hunley Submarine and founder of Singer’s Submarine Corp, great-great granddaughter of John Valentine Singer a New York and Ohio shipbuilder and early settler of Padre Island Texas and great-great grandniece of Isaac Merritt Singer founder of the Singer Sewing Machine Company.
Dorothy was an accomplished sculptress and fashion designer who enjoyed participating in ballroom dance competitions. She was retired from King County Superior Court Seattle WA and a lifetime member of Eastern Star, Masonic Lodge Faith Chapter # 225 Eatonville WA. She spent most of her retirement years residing at the Masonic Retirement Center in Des Moines WA.
Dorothy is survived by her two sons, Bradley James Combs and his wife Suzanne Martin Combs of Covington Wa and Dwight Layton Combs and his wife Jacqueline Anne Musyt Combs of Olympia WA; her two grandsons Jeffrey Keith Combs of Eatonville WA and Brian Edward Combs and his wife Brandi and granddaughter Cadence Ann Combs of Graham WA. Dorothy is also survived by longtime friend, Logan Runner of Tacoma WA.
