Obituary
Dr. Dayton Lee Alverson, loving father and husband, passed away January 19th in Burien Washington. He was surrounded by his wife and children, and went peacefully in his sleep. “Lee” was known for his renowned Marine Biology career, and loved for his charm and wit. He is survived by his wife Ruby, of 67 years, his son Robert and wife Dolly Alverson, his daughter Susan and husband Wayne Wilson, and his grandchildren, Aimie and husband Aron Unseth, Chelsi Lee Marie, Steven Wilson, Tara Alverson, and his great grand children Kollin and Madelynn Unseth. He will surely be missed in the community.
Hi Ruby and Bob:
Some of my most cherished memories are working and traveling with Lee. I will always remember Lee as a thoughtful man with a great sense of humor. He was not only innovative and at the forefront of his profession, he was also a kind and compassionate leader who took a personal interest in all of his staff. At a time when minority problems were an issue, locally and nationwide, such problems were absent or minimal at our Laboratory, primarily because of the fair values and mindset of our Director, Lee Alverson. We should all celebrate and be proud of his legacy.

Hello Bobby and family,
After reading the account of your dad, I thought what a great man he had to be to all of you. I want you to know I am thinking of you and wish you peace and God Bless.

Bob and all of Lee’s family: I first became acquainted with Lee as a student at the UW School of Fisheries in the late 50’s and early 60’s’. Through accomplishments both nationally and internationally and the broad respect he commanded in our industry he remained a regular guiy and a damned fine fellow
Dear family of Lee’s,
I’m sorry to hear of Lee’s passing; he was a gentle giant who I very much enjoyed being around and working with whenever the occasion arose. The research community held him in very high esteem and he will be missed as a colleague and friend.

Dear Bob and Lee’s family
Much will be said and is known about Dr. Dayton Lee Alverson and his impact on fisheries science, laws and our fishing communities. However, I believe his impact in many related fields is equally impressive. He was able to recognize potential leaders in the Science Center and gave them (us) challenges and opportunities to prove their mettle As a young scientist I got to know him well as the Director who could suddenly appear in a meeting or in a laboratory and ask incisive questions and appreciated bold responses. Lee and I remained in contact over the years, and I got used to and appreciated an occasional call with advice or a request and his wry sense of humor. Please accept my deep condolences
