Dwayne W. Kuver

Obituary
Dwayne William Kuver was born on May 23, 1918 to Samuel and Viola Kurver in Kingfisher County, Oklahoma.
As an infant he contacted the flu during the big flu epidemic of 1918 which took the life of so many people. He survived by the good care given by his grandmother Minnie Swank.
His parents later moved into the town of Crescent, Oklahoma, where he grew up and went through school graduating at the age of 16 yrs. His second grade teacher had 2nd and 3rd grade students and she got tired of grading two sets of papers so she moved him from 2nd to 3rd grade.
He had several paper routes and delivered papers all over town until he graduated. Soon after the graduation he got a job in a filling station where he sold gas for 13 cents a gallon.
On August 7th, 1937, he saw Gertrude and immediately told a friend, ‘That’s the girl I’m going to marry’ and on May 22, 1938 he did just that. To this union two sons were born, ‘Vyron Dean’ and Ronald Leroy.
He continued to work at the filling station for a while. When Vyron was about 7 months old, Dwayne moved the family to the country and became a farmer.
When the war started Dwayne signed up but they wouldn’t take him. They said he was doing his part by raising food for the troops. After fifteen years as a farmer, Dwayne gave up farming and moved back into town where he had his own shop and garage where he worked on Model T’s and Model A cars, later moving back to the farm but that didn’t work out very well so he got a job as a mechanic at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma, working on the blades of jet plane engines to be sent back to the Korean War. When the war ended, some 3, 000 people were laid off at the same time. It so happened that Boeing was in Oklahoma City recruiting, and Dwayne picked up an application form and in two weeks the family was on their way to Seattle. They settled in Redondo for five years and then had a house built at their present location. Dwayne worked at Boeing for 27 years and during that time he finished the basement along with help from family members. While working at Boeing, Dwayne became interested in Lapidary work so bought some equipment and soon got interested in setting and polishing rocks. He made some beautiful pieces of jewelry. He lost interest when his friends at work began moving to new jobs or whatever so the lapidary work came to an end and he became interested in traveling which he and his wife enjoyed for many years, camping and meeting new people. He kept busy fixing things around the house and reading.
Dwayne passed away peacefully in his sleep on his birthday, May 23rd at 7:25 pm.
He is survived by his wife Gertrude of 72 years, Sons, Vyron and Ron, 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and one great great grandson.
I remember all the vacation trips we took to Pikes Peak, Grand Canyon etc. Vivid are the memories of you teaching me about plumbing, electrical and just being a caring man.
As a dad, no one could ask for better.
You weren’t one in a million,
You were one in a billion.
Your lovign son,
Ron
Grandpa, you will be missed greatly. I wish I could be there today, my thoughts and love is with you and the rest of the family. I love you!
I will always keep a special place in my heart for you, I will always remember running through the woods to visit you, those are great memories I will hold onto forever. I am so glad you were able to meet your granddaughter Riley last year.
Love always and forever,
Daphne and Riley
I will miss your stories and fond memories. The smile on your face as you reminisced about your glory years. The way you would make me feel better with a little smile or a quick wink. You were a great man and will be greatly missed.
You always had s story, Of how things were for you
A brief glimpse of history, Taken from what you knew
You did so much in your day, And were such a great man
Always with something to say, I was such a big fan
You will be missed so amply, By all your life did touch
I hope you knew and can see, That you are loved so much.
I love you Grandpa and miss you.
Sorry to hear of Dwayne’s passing. He must have been a wonderful man, for he had Gertrude and sons Vyron and Ron. May the Lord look after the family and God’s Blessings For You!
Love,
Irene & Jerone Stadel
