OBITUARY
Mr. Earl Hollins, Jr., son of the late Earl Hollins, Sr. and the late Lillie Lanier was born November 24, 1919 in Oakridge, Louisiana. He had one brother, William Hollins (deceased) and one sister, Gladys Hollins Action of Berkeley, California. He received his early education in a one-room schoolhouse in Oakridge. At an early age he professed his faith in Jesus Christ. As an adult, he joined New Hope Baptist Church in Seattle where he was a dedicated member of the Deacon Board. The Hollins family united with Mount Zion Baptist Church in the late seventies.
He was united in holy matrimony to Vera Mae Hollins (deceased) in May of 1952. This union was blessed with two children, Winona Hollins Hauge (John) and Kathy Hollins Frazier (Dwain). Earl’s oldest son, John Earl Hollins (Sage), was born to a prior union. His oldest daughter, Nettie King Hollins, is deceased.
In his early years, Earl worked as a lifeguard. He was known as one of the “best swimmers around town.” Earl aka “Hollins on the Hill” was also known for his entrepreneurial spirit. He was a landlord, part owner of a grocery store and gas station; he also held the majority interest in a small gaming establishment. For most of his adult life, Earl worked two jobs. He was a proud member of the Laborers Local #242 for over 60 years. He also retired from his “night job” at the University of Washington, where he worked as supervisor of maintenance in 1975.
As a result of his generous spirit and pleasant personality, many loved Earl. His life and his influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew him. He quietly departed this life Saturday, April 21 at home surrounded by family.
His beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of those left to mourn including his sister, Gladys Action; his children, John Earl Hollins (Sage) Winona Hollins Hauge (John), Kathy Hollins Frazier (Dwain); Grandchildren, Angela Hollins, John Hollins Jr., David Hollins, Michelle Hollins Coleman (Coleman), Monica Hollins, Johnathan King (Maryjo) Deon Fields (Tara Lancaster-Fields) Bergen Hauge, Nicole Hauge, Caleb Frazier and Keisha Frazier; Sisters-in-law, Anna Rivers, Joyce Hardison, Shirley Wilson, Jacqueline Jones Walsh; Brother-in-laws, Hurley Jones, Jackie Jones, Oren Jones, Emmet Jones and Ronnie Jones; Great-Grandchildren, Jazzmine, Deon Jr., D’von, Jaylen, Monique, Janice and Isaiah; a host of cousins, nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.
